Grill's choreo is getting worse with each and every performance. I can't take all this stiff drag moves he makes Janet and her dancers do. I miss the graceful feminine moves with the right touch of masculinity. It used to balance out. Now everything is just so out of place! The dancing isn't for a superstar entertainer. I wouldn't even call it dancing. It's horrible. What's up with the random poses every 5 seconds? [Edited 7/6/10 22:33pm]

hmmm, interesting. that'd be good for Jan if the Nothing song gets some Oscar buzz (and wins) no other song thus far to my knowledge has gotten airplay and chart success from a film this year.

Totally agree! She needs a new choregrapher and creative director.

Puhleaseeeee.
But if this miracle were to happen - I would cry! Janet deserved the Oscar for 'Again'. Oh and FYI the 'Best Original Song' category isn't based off popularity. If so Janet's 'Nothing' won't be nominated. Either way, I highly doubt it even will. It's very sub-par. [Edited 7/7/10 16:49pm]

Janet Jackson's Essence Music Festival Style Screams Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Lady Gagaby Mark Marino (Subscribe to Mark Marino's posts), Posted Jul 6th 2010 at 7:20PMThis is a post
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
That might have been the motto Janet Jackson had in mind when choosing her attire for the Essence Music Festival. Wearing her hair in a newly cropped style, the 44-year-old "Nasty" girl channeled 20-something chart toppers Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga in a metallic gold futuristic corset, a skimpy sparkly leotard with fishnets, and gold knee pads just above her matching boots. The steamy two-hour set, which included all of Jackson's greatest hits as well as an S&M routine, marked the singer's first... two years, reports the Daily Mail. Though Jackson appears to be competing with the new generation of pop stars, she told U.K. magazine Wonderland that she doesn't consider them a threat. In fact Jackson admits that she's a fan of Gaga, though she isn't so sure about her style, "Do I think it's over the top at all? I enjoy it because it's something kind of different. It's something new to look at," she says. "It's going to be hard [for her] to keep up with that, but who knows?" Jackson also adds that she was rocking bandages long before Rihanna ever did. "Have I done that before? Yes," Jackson tells the magazine. "I'm not saying she's copying me. Everything is cyclical. They come back around at some point." As for keeping up with the Joneses -- and the Beyoncés, the Rihannas, and the Gagas -- Miss Jackson explains to Wonderland, "I don't look at it like that. It's really about being who you are and doing what you want to do. I think when you try to keep up with something, it's not a good thing. You have to express yourself and be the true you."
Wait a sec -- didn't Madonna say that first? In related news, check out the over-the-top ensemble Rihanna wore at her Vancouver concert. LOVE ♪♫♪♫ ♣¤═══¤۩۞۩ஜ۩ஜ۩۞۩¤═══¤♣

I feel ya. I think she needs someone that understands she's a 44 year old FEMALE. She should've just fired him after the SB stunt.

Yeah it's like everything Gil does makes Janet look like a copycat rather than unique (and that she is, unique, but it seems Gil doesn't truly understand that fully). I still don't get why she hired him to begin with... [Edited 7/7/10 18:01pm]

I agree, she should look to a new choreographer. He was good at first but his stuff is becoming stale. The best routine he's ever done for her was All Nite (Don't Stop)

If she'd let someone else do some dance steps besides fucking Gil Duldulado, she'd be doing better. His choreography sucks, and her videos etc have suffered from it. She needs Tina Landon or Terry Bixler, or Anthony Thomas again. Those guys are great. I know the Tina thing will never happen again, but they DID dance together for the MJ tribute on MTV (which shocked the shit outta me).
For those who don't know: Thomas as the dude who did the RN1814 era choreography. Bixler was one of her dancers, a choreographer in his own right, and is noted for putting together the "chair routine" at the end of the "Miss U Much" video (he and Thomas were the two fellows behind Janet in that segment).
Of course Tina's been around since the Control days as a dancer. She's in the "What Have You Done For Me Lately?" video.

Cool stuff. I remember Anthony Thomas, but didn't know about Terry Bixler. Although its kind of late, I thought I read recently that the little red head girl was starting to help with her choreography.... doesn't matter, since Gil probably still has to approve it anyway. Janet seems to be a really loyal friend or just can't bring herself to let Gil go, or both. (Although she didn't have a problem letting go that Puerto Rican chick from Omarion's, "Touch" video. Maybe she likes how different his style is versus everyone elses. idk. Knowing Janet, she probably doesn't want her dance to remotely look like anyone else. Seems like a lot of those popular choreographers work for most of the popular artist. Sort of a revolving door for dance choreographers. I'm sure there's plenty of untapped talent out there just waiting on the opportunity.
I too will join the chrous for a new guy or girl for her to collaborate with. Most of her supporters are all singing the same song, from what I can tell. Most seem to miss hot, "memorable" dance moves. Time for her to set new trends in dance again. [Edited 7/8/10 9:15am]

I agree. Thomas and Bixler provided some of the best choreography she's ever done. This is Terry Bixler on the right (and Rene Elizondo on the far left) as one of the dancing bums in "Nasty."
and of course there's Barry Lather, who choreographed "The Pleasure Principle." He was in "Nasty" too
Terry Bixler's chair routine from "Miss You Much" is still awesome today, as well as all of the choreography from that era. Tina Landon provided the more feminie, yet still iconic, dance moves for Janet. Either of them would be a welcome change from Gil. "Get up off that grey line"

LOL! So many of her fans want Tina back! Idk why she just doesn't bring her back. I remember on Tina's website, when people kept bugging her about Janet she said that she's not the boss and etc. so she's not the one to make decisions. It's Janet choice whether she wants her back in the picture or not. In the making of the VMAS tribute Janet said when she was talking with Tina on the floor that she missed the old days. If she doesn't want Tina. She should consider Laurie Ann. I like her choreo with Lady Gaga -
So genius and very expressive.
NO ONE is checking for Gil! the only other artist/group he worked for is Danity Kane and even that was because P. Diddy is obsessed with everything Janet. After Tina worked for Janet she had many, many artists/dancers begging to work with her.
and is it just me or is her new 'Kids' slow and very average looking? I hate to be negative but it is what it is.

I don't know, man. It was pretty bitter. Janet wrote stuff like "You Ain't Right", "Trust A Try", and "Son of A Gun" about Tina. Tina did her little album and wrote stuff about Jackson, so I think it's ovah, unfortunately. I'd like to see her back.

Yea, I like some of Laurie Ann's work. She's very hit and miss though lol I want Janet back with Tina too but I doubt it will ever happen. Or even Shawnette but they got in a fight too lmao ugh! Her new female dancers aren't sexy nor attractive at all. Blah.

Essence article:
Janet Damita Jo Jackson is a woman with an obvious fondness for the worlds of cameras and make-believe. In our rendention of Before Sunset the veritable triple threat takes a star turn as a stunning socialite on a clandestine rendevous with an impossibly sexy polo player, played by the equally stunning Adam Rodriguez. Why Rodriguez? Well, to understand that you's have to understand where Janet is at this point in her life. " I'm so fortunate," she coos in a voice so honeyed it gives license to use the word mellifluous. "I'm a free agent. I'm not trapped in a contract where I'm unhappy. I'm very free, and I love this feeling. I can do whatever I want."

Janet is an innovator. The one who started all of this. She doesn't have to adapt their style of dress to be effective. That posted picture demonstrates "counter-influence". I hate that ugly leotard look. Sad that Janet felt that she had to adopt that style. She sets the trends, and not the other way around. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
