It's okay. It's very similar to a lot of their other songs. It's well done but kind of formulaic in terms of what people expect from them. It's not terrible contemporary or modern in its sound.

Hooray! I will definitely be picking this up. I thought No Exit wasn't the greatest comeback, but I loved The Curse of Blondie.

I'm sure that people that like Blondie will love this, but I've never been a huge fan of their actual music. I like a few songs here and there, but I find them overrated. I am a huge fan of Debbie Harry as a person and a style icon, but their music not so much.

I'm not saying they should jump on trends, but do they have to make the same record they did in the past? I think you have to have some awareness that time has moved on while still being true to yourself. It's a hard thing to get right and find the right mix. Most older groups tend to either make the same record without updating or go too far the other way and try to be trendy and look ridiculous.

A catchy song (although I'd like to hear the studio version).

A Blondie album cover....without a picture of Debbie? The last one appeared to be INSANELY airbrushed (or a just plain older photo).

Yeah, I loved the idea of it A LOT more than the final product. lol

That being said, I'd still pick up the album if it was on there.

I saw them live last night in Manchester, England. They were great!

I had the attitude as I was going that I needed to not expect Debbie Harry to perform like she did when she was 30 years younger, and that I needed to expect the vocal performance of a woman as old as she is now.

But...she sounds the same! Honestly, the high notes, no problem, no croakiness or struggling. The voice is still there.

And Clem Burke is still a GOD in my eyes. Great drummer, never over-playing but showing enough to know that he's got the chops and the ability. And he's great to watch too.

Downsides? Well the sound wasn't great at the start (drums too quiet, for one, which is a complaint I have NEVER had at a gig before!) though it improved a few songs in. Maybe there were too many new songs and not enough of the classics..but then I can't blame the band for wanting to live in the NOW rather than the THEN.. but the two main gripes I have are:

The lead guitarist guy - no idea what his name is, youngish guy, not an original member. Running all over the front of the stage during guitar solos. Ridiculous. You look stupid, stop it. And does Atomic REALLY need a wank-off Eddie Van Halen-style solo in it? (Answer: Like fuck does it!)

He looked like that Greg Rudeski (sp?) tennis player, which put me off too, but that's hardly his fault!

And Chris Stein. What a mess! Sure he's one of the main guys in the band, wrote a lot of the material, big part of who and what Blondie is but...he barely played audibly and seemed to just strum the odd chord here and there. And when he DID play louder...sheesh, you knew exactly WHY he was mostly turned down in the mix. Seriously, he shouldn't have even been on the stage, such was his poor contribution.

But as I say, these are small points - It was a great show and Harry is in fine form.

One worry though, she introduced a song as being off their new album, and said "...if it ever gets fucking released"

Struggling with labels at the moment or something?

According to moopy.org: "They may perform some new songs, but some legal issues with Jimmy Destri are keeping the album from coming out. Basically, he says he wasn't paid for "Maria" or not enough, and was inappropriately kicked out of the band while recovering from his drug addiction in rehab, and also they recorded this album behind his back while he's still an "official" member of Blondie, at least legally." The "hopeful" release date for the Panic of Girls is September. Official site is blondie.net.

Reel

Wow...I loved Blondie (but only with Debra Harry). When I was a kid, she was one of my favorite artists. In that live version of the song that the OP posted, she sounds a bit off key.

My favorite.

My second favoite. A guilty pleasure for a old school hip hop head such as myself. It was even a "guilty pleasure" when it first came out. I couldn't admit to anyone in the "hood" that I was digging this song and this wackazz rap. wink

Can definitely see that the group was influenced by different genres of music by listening to this cut.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
