Y'all feel me on this? Do you really think he recorded nothing that whole time?
In his defence from my earlier tirade though..
?uestlove said that he recorded materials to cover 4 or 5 albums, but the record label still blocks them out for fear of not fitting the "radio playlist", which is an inevitable matter at this point because D'Angelo's music won't fit the playlist's sound anyway.
I'm disgusted by the record label's complete lack of balls, they could've released an EP like ya'll said, or a promo single to test the water OR D could've released an album independently, although that would burn bridges with his label.
Kinda what Prince has been trying to tell us all along. Theres good music out there that's being blocked because executives and not musicans don't think that it will sell. When that XM Sattalite stuff came out, I thought that would sort of cure this nonsense, but it does not seem to have done so. Still catagories, and playlists.
Hell I guess when you get blocked like that after putting all your energy and hard work into your music anyone's liable to "cook up something real nice" to cope. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that? |

To be honest he should go independently. Record labels are the devil. |

Is he bound to his label through contract for a number of albums? What happens when they don't want to release however many albums he may have delivered to them?

Talking is for the birds
Sly Stone has a better chance for crawling back from the cave he lives in, reunite with the Family Stone for an album and a full tour while this mofo still fuck around talking about "I'm cookin' up something real nice". Negro, HUSH and just do it already

The birds will have learned a language before D'Angelo creates or produces anything.

I know the label is effectively his employer, but silencing my art by shelving my recordings, I would feel like the label was burning bridges with ME.
Understandable stance.
But "comfort zone" is a mofo. Some of those artists believe that they need their labels more than labels need them, and thats why they cater to their tyrant attitude.

So far, theres only one man that I know of that has challenged his label is our Purple Friend. I don't know how many other artists have the financial resources to do what's necessary to get his music out by any means necessary. Does it always need to involve a name change? If that's the case make up a name but please just don't make it an unprouncable symbol. Antics like that has made me critical of Prince in the past.
Victims of the same craziness have been artists such as New Edition (new releases)
Rakim's (New Releases). Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that? |

My interest in a new D'Angelo album has waned. When it leaks (if it ever does) I will be sure to download it. |

It's a shame people have such a negative attitude towards this gifted brother. He doesn't owe me anything. I really dig his music and when he's ready to lay some more on us, I will be listening. No more, no less.
I don't blame him for staying out of the mix. Where he want's to go musically is a different place than the average listerner expects from him. I do remember hearing an interview and he said that he will be heading toward the funk rock sound in the future. That was during 'Brown Sugar'. Well the future is here! Thank you!
I can't stand ambiguity when it comes to artists I love, its not negativity, its just frustration. Work on your stuff, when its a SURE THING to release it, talk about it.
This dude though, have been running the mouth since god knows when, and as you can plainly see; nothing. |

See I rather he say nothing and work on his stuff. Not saying he has diarrhea but it seemed like every time he says something it always ends up being bullshit. Like D, can you be honest for once? Not hating just stating what we see. |

Beat me to it on that comment
On the flipside, talk is cheap, talk to me about your "real nice something" when its out for sale.

I went to one of his concerts somewhere between 2000-2001, and this lady who was close to the stage kept screaming her head off "Take it off! Take it off!". He shot her this evil look like "somebody better sedate this dizzy bitch or something"
He became frustrated of the sexy image, which screams a big "no shit" caption, since he was the one who contributed to that problem. |

I think it was an act of rebellion from his part though, I remember reading an interview where he said that maybe now, people will focus on the music. |
