Best Hit Written By Prince, But Not Per4med By Prince He's written 4 so many others. Some have even had the nerve 2 record one of his songs...and it was a hit!!
So, which song did Prince write, that another sang, that u loved the most? 4 me, It's a tie. A 3-way tie even! ***Prince wrote and per4med "I Feel 4 U", but it hit big 4 Chaka Kahn. She covered it and made it her own. She had Stevie Wonder in the background and Grandmaster ? rappin' her name. It was BAD! ***Prince wrote but didn't per4m "Manic Monday" 4 the Bangles, but he did play the piano on it. I know, I know, sure, he was bangin' Susanna Hoffs at the time, but I dig that song from the Bangles the most. Not just bcuz it was by Prince, (or Christopher as he was credited), but bcuz it truly was a good song. ***Prince wrote and per4med "Nothing Compares 2 U" but Sinnead O'Conner put it on the map. I even dig it more than his duet on it with Rosie Gaines. Her soulful, heart wrenching version of love lost is incredible. The video is captivating...it truly sells the song's message. What's Urs? |

Actually, just for every1's information, there IS a version of Manic Monday that Prince recorded with the Revolution in either 1983 or 1984. It can be found on The Work Bootleg set. It sound more or less the same as the Bangles' song, although I like the harmonies on Prince's version more. The Mothership Connection... Funk, Soul, R&B, & Jazz every Monday night @ 8:00 p.m. Listen @ www.wqaq.com (We are off the air 4 the Summer. Returning in early September 2004)

Yeah, okay...I've never heard of this. Still, it was a Bangles song b4 Prince did it w/ the Revolution. My point being, the other 2 on my list was a "cover", which means he had released it officially b4, on an album commercially marketed. However, Manic Monday was written 4 the Bangles 2 release on their Different Light album. If he did it later, that's another story. At least, that wasn't what I was getting at. Still, I'd like 2 hear Prince's version... |

MANIC MONDAY was originally written for Apollonia 6...It was on the first pressing of the album but was shelved immediatley after...Take Me With U was also on the original album...anyway.....but YES the Bangles were the first to release it..... Apollonia 6's version was awesome...Susannah Hoffs sings way better than apples Every minute of last night is on my face today....

I have 2 agree with lovesexy4u on this. Open Book is such a fine song. Although Prince's version can actually be found on the "Yellow" bootleg and believe it or not, is FAR superior to Jevetta Steele's version, even though hers is just astronomically superb!

I know it's an obvious choice but it's gotta be
Sinead's Nothing Compares 2 U, just so much more emotional than any other version (inc. Prince & Rosie's)

Wow VANITYSprisonBYTCH & getwild007, that's news 2 me.
U see, that's the point of this thread, and the whole discussion forum as a whole. U learn so much from other Prince fams that u never would have learned otherwise. Re: Stand Back by Stevie Nicks. According 2 Stevie Nicks, on VH1 Storytellers, she was jammin' 2 "Little Red Corvette", and thought up some new lyrics 2 the groove. She phoned Prince (How cool is that, 2 just phone Prince) and said she had a new idea on his song, but couldn't think of this particular musical part that was needed 2 complete the song, if he could help her. As the story goes, he was at the studio quicker than u can say anotherloverholeinyourhead...and baddabing!, finished it up 4 her. They both loved the new mix with the new lyrics, he went on his way, she went on hers, they never spoke again, she had a hit...he got mo' money...and the rest is history. If u want, u can actually sing "Little Red Corvette" 2 "Stand Back". [This message was edited Thu Mar 21 12:41:12 PST 2002 by June7] |

She also said that Stand back fits in the song Little Red Corvette. I just can't figure out where? Do you know?

My choice would be Manic Monday. It's just such a choice little slice of psychedelic pop...delicious stuff.
And yes, it was originally written for and recorded by Apollonia 6, as was Take Me With U, 17 Days AND The Glamorous Life! He took the four best songs from their project and gave them to other folks or kept them for himself. Poor Apples... And, I agree that A Love Bizarre is a major contender for this award, but my gut is that Prince didn't really write this specifically for Sheila. My bet is that he recorded it, played it for her, she flipped, asked for it, he said "sure," added her vocals and voila. It's pretty much a Prince song as it is.

I believe he played guitar on that one. I think she mentioned it in an interview, that he basically just came in, did the guitar part and left.

My favorite, and also my vote for a song Prince should reclaim is Cool from the Time's first album.
I just heard the rehearsal of Prince and the NPG performing this during a soundcheck in Madrid, and I'd love to see and hear him perform this live or on cd.

I love this song it has a haunting quality to it. Whatever happened to her? She was putting together an album about 2 years ago with a friend (of a friend) of mine. Haven't heard what became of it. She signed my "Martika's Kitchen" Album for me though. She had a website also, but I can't locate it anymore. cracknbush
