"love... thy will be done" by martika. great song, has a feel of "i wish u heaven" for me- just *rolls* along, effortless stuff.

non-hit: "desire" on the family's album. i LOVE that song. the ending which fades in and out is just unbelievable, the whole song is unbelievable. it's a beauty, tucked away on the end of the album. what other artist could afford to throw away stuff like this on side projects? great track.

oh, "interesting" by mavis staples, off her first paisley park album i love as well.

as far as "nothing compares 2 U"- family's version is top by twenty miles. then sinead's. prince and rosie- blech! hate it! talk about overkill! schmaltz! horrible stuff!

Without a doubt "Love Thy Will Be Done" -- Not only is the Martika version excellent, but when I saw Prince do a version of it at a Paisley show, it was like a religious experience.

Runner up is "The Sex of It" by Kid Creole and the Coconuts. There's an awesome boot of Prince and his band doing it at Rupert's Nightclub. It's in a box somewhere in my closet -- hopefully I can dig it out and give it the listen it deserves.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with the "Nothing Compares 2 U" votes. It was a good song when the Family recorded it; better when Prince did it; but not all that great when Sinead covered it.

and something he wrote for Tony Lemans, could it be Higher than High ? I completely forgot the title of that one !

The tune he wrote for Tony Lemans was "Fuscha Light" it was recorded befor his falling out with Prince (about 7 months befor Tony died in a car crash)
I wish U love & peace.

I was only joking before about Kenny - but I'll have to say the Family's version of Nothing Compares 2 U - my favourite version of the song by a mile. I fell in love with it as soon as I heard it. Sinead did a good job of popularising it

Me too!!
I'm happy to see someone else preferred that version too.
Couldn't say it better myself.

Did Prince write Glamourous Life by Sheila E? If so, that would have to be my favorite.

In a word or two, Manic Monday would be another Top 10 had he released it himself.

And I'm going to have to disagree. Kind of. Prince's version is excellent. So is Sinead's. I've never liked the Family's version. Thankfully Sinead saved the song from those awful acapella "oh oh oh oh's".

I have recently, however, heard an excellent alternate version of the Family's recording. Sounds closer to the way Prince performs it.

I love this song it has a haunting quality to it. Whatever happened to her?

Is it me or is the beginning of "One of Us" the same as "Love thy Will be done"? I love em both anyway. My favorite Prince song that he didn't record was Phil Collins "Sussudio!" wink No seriously I guess it would be "The Stick" waha!

ok, i'm going to go on banging about this one.

nothing compares 2U.

the three different versions, please play them all three after each other once again and be honest.

I know it's difficult to discus tastes, but it you can.

I have to agree with most here, the family's version is (oh oh oh oh) horrible.

How did sinead come across this one. You can here by her version, that that song must have struck her, and she is really touched buy it.

After that prince had to do something with this song, it's almost his biggest hit, and he didn't sing it. Did you ever hear her do this one live ? (she doesn't sing it anymore now).
Prince can't do it the way sinead did it, so he asked rosie to help him out. I'm not saying the version on the hits is bad. But to me it sounds more like a las vegas rerun of a song by sinead 'o connor. (sorry that's harsh)

Again this situation is awkward for an artist. It's like simple minds there biggest hit 'don't you' wasn't written by themselves but buy fan, and they are being remembered by this hit.

You know,I have always wondered how Sinead O'Connor came across the song "Nothing Compares 2 U"? Either she heard it on The Family's album,or maybe her manager (Steve Fargnoli, who was Prince's manager in the 80s) suggested the song to her??

I guess 4 me it had 2 B between:

Martika's - Love Thy Will B Done
Andre' Cymone's- The Dance Electric
The Family's - Desire

All great Prince songs done 4 other artists, even though Prince's recordings of them R better.
