Thanks for posting this, P2daP. The songs and performances definitely hold up live. Watching this has me hoping that she will be releasing a full concert on dvd.

I love this chick! I'm a little late to the game, but I finally gave in and watched her on Letterman. I bought the CD that week. I'm kind of snobbish with new acts, and I assumed she was just another R&B princess-wannabe in the wings like Rihanna or whoever. But when I saw "tightrope" on Letterman - FCUK!

I am so NOT disappointed w/ the album. She's like a black Cyndi Lauper for the new generation (although Cyndi is far from being gone or irrelevant - her Memphis Blues album is incredible, and I'm not a blues guy at all.

Janelle though - Good for her. Lotta love and respect for this girl. I can't wait for the last Suite in the ArchAndroid line. We've got 3 of 4 now.

What will be interesting to see is either on the album (presumably the last of the Metropolis Suites), or the album after that, is when she changes her look, has different hair, clothes, etc. Think about how Janet went from shoulder pads, to military and masculine to sexy and organic (Control-1814-janet.) It'll be fun to see the change as time goes on.

I agree...she seems like she'll doing bigger and better things in the future. I hope she continues to evolve, because honestly I can't really think of the last time I've seen an artist really change up their act and image in the same fashion as Janet, Madonna, etc.. I hope she's someone that doesn't continue to rehash the same old shit.

(I considered Bey for a second, but then I realized she's basically doing the same thing, but without the 2 backup dancers..heh)

I've been SOLD on this girl for 3 years now. I first found out about her right here on the Org somebody made a post about "hey check out janelle monae". Ususally i don't really check those things out but for whatever reason i did, and i was SOLD on her right away. I really dig what she's doing from the music, to the heavy concept image and album to the straight rockin' live shows.

She's been asked in a few interviews if she'll change up her style after the 4th suite (which she's said will be out sooner then expected... Whenever that is.. lol) But anyways she asked. She smiled and gave something to the extent of "i could tell you but i'd have to kill you" type of an answer. I think if you read between the lines. She's saying yes she will change up her style but she not gonna tell us what. But that's just IMO.

I don't think she'll do anything to drastact. I don't think she'll all of sudden become some sex crazed Lady Gaga. 'Cause honestly i just don't think that's her. I think she'll do something different but still be "janelle monae". But for now I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy this. 'Cause it's been a looooong time coming!

Thank you very much for the link.

Janelle really is getting a lot of my attention at the moment. ArchAndroid is not even out in the UK yet, (i had to download boxed ) but it is making it's way up my list of top albums this year so far.

What a voice, great performer and great music.

I hear a lot of peole say she is too eclectic sounding, too many styles, and that the album suffers as a result, well i can keep up just fine, and i am loving her.

Would be great to see her live, she is supporting Erykah Badu, but not in the UK i don't think.

She's definitely all over Europe right now. Keep an eye out. Weird that the album isn't out in the UK. I would imagine it's coming soon.

Also, find Metropolis, which is Suite 1. ArchAndroid is Suite 2 and 3. 4 is to come.

nod I love the fact that there's several styles on her album, yet it still forms a cohesive set, IMO. I dislike albums where the sound is too "samey" throughout. It's so rare these days that I can enjoy an album as a whole. Normally, I just cherry-pick my favorite tracks and trash the rest, but with hers, I can listen from start to finish.

I wasn't a fan when she first came on the scene, though. Her previous EP didn't impress me much, and I thought she was trying too hard to be different. This album has caused me to do a complete 180 on her.

I liked the E.P when i bought it, but it is ArchAndroid that has really made me think she is someone a bit special. I agree with you regarding albums which may have only one style all the way through, Monae (and a couple of others) has been a breath of fresh air much needed.

I eagerly anticipate her next move.

With Metropolis i didn't like the bouns track (Mr. President & Smile) It's not so much that they where bad tracks but they didn't fit with the EP and seemed out of place. But they also didn't hold up to the top quality of the other songs on the ep. Violet Stars, Many Moons and Sinceraly Jane are all SLAMIN" I much perfer the orginal release of the Suite 1 which ends after Sinceraly Jane. It ends leaving you thristy for more!

Thanks for posting, P2daP! thumbs up!

My favorite part was the interview. Now I understand why she seems so Velveeta-ish to me. By that I don't mean as in fake or cheesy. I mean that, as in processed.

I think she's very talented! However, for me, I just see so much coming from her, that I've already seen before. To me...she's so chuck full of kibbles and bits from almost, every musical superstar of the last 40 years, that it was difficult for ME to see...HER...until I saw the interview.

From what I've heard and seen of her work...to me...it seems like she's just acting. Very well, mind you but still...just like Velveeta. It is what it is...processed! shrug

With that said, I actually think she'd do PHENOMINALLY WELL on Broadway and in the movies! If music is the road that gets her where she needs to be...more power to her! clapping

.

I want to like this chick. I really do. She has everything going for her - she's talented, unique, has a good stage presence (cute, too). Her music is different and fresh. The problem? I just don't like it. I don't dig her grooves. They don't move me. YES, they are good. I'm by no means saying that the material is weak or lame; its just not my cup of tea. I hope she stumbles on something I can get into. Thanks for posting the concert/interview/encore. It was nice.

She comes off as fake, and the grooves are stiff and forced, Iv'e heard this sound before and it's called Stankonia or any Organized Noise production with far less feel and funk, that's what I feel
