Love them both, but Head to Toe wins. From the opening drums to the last echoing vocals, that song is slammin'. Now, if this had been a Head to Toe vs Mercedes Boy thread, the choice would have been a little harder.

nod Best song on her debut to me. Though I did love "Give Me Your Love".

I like them both, but I prefer Girlfriend. Lisa always had a nasal tinge to her voice that bothered me. Though she'd sing circles around Pebbles anyday. biggrin

I'm thinking Pebbles, she fit LaFace records pefectly. I like quite a few of her songs/albums. While I like Head 2 Toe, thats about the extent of it.

Come on, GF is not trash. I can see you not caring for the song, but "trash"?

OK, OK... compost. I suppose someone could find something good in it.

LOL.

You never liked "Girlfriend"? Or you don't like Pebbles in general?

I finally made up mind after listening to both songs continuously and I'm going with Lisa Lisa as well....

I never liked Girlfriend or Pebbles. In fact, the only thing she's ever done that I find listenable is the duet "Always" with Cherrelle.

LOVE Always. It's ten times better than Love Makes Things Happen, her duet with Babyface.

This song is still the shit!

As for the vote...I love Head To Toe and Lisa Lisa (was actually shocked when I learned that her real name was just Lisa). Doh! Anyway, Girlfriend is way better than Head to Toe, IMO. Girlfriend, has an attitude that Head To Toe doesn't.

Speaking of Lisa Lisa, does anyone remember "Skip To My Lou"? I can't find it and I loved that song! It was one of her last ones.

Thanks for posting this. I've actually seen this one but this is the remix version. The original doesn't have such an urban vibe to it. Can't find it anywhere. sad

It's a great song, but no. hmph!

yeahthat

There is a reason it was the 2nd single and had to be remixed for a single. "Girlfriend" was the best choice and best song on that album.

Exactly my point. The video mix is not only superior to Girlfriend, it is superior to the album version as well. MY opinion.

I think "Mercedes Boy" is much better than "Girlfriend" boxed lol

For the most part,I like most of LA and Babyface's productions from that period, but I think "Girlfriend" is one of their weakest tunes (production-wise).It hasn't aged well, either.

SoulAlive

interesting story about "Girlfriend"....

LA and Face originally wrote it for Vanessa Williams, who was putting together her debut album. They played it for her,she liked it alot and planned to record it for her album.Something happened, they changed their minds and gave the song to Pebbles instead! Vanessa was pissed. She said that they didn't even bother to call her and explain the situation. She found out about it through someone else, who informed her that the song is no longer hers disbelief
