I can understand why people find Axl so offensive but I don't care what anybody else says, Chinese Democracy was a magnificent record.

If any of you were seriously expecting it to sound anything like AFD or UYI then you were setting yourselves up for disappointment. Surely the very fact that all but one of the original members were not on the album should've been a give away?

Putting aside all the bullshit (the 15 years it took to make, whether or not he had the right to release it under GNR), the songwriting and musicianship displayed on this album is nothing short of superb.

I probably prefer Shacklers Revenge to any old GNR song.

I won't even listen to the slamming of "The Black Album".

Oh let me be clear I'm not "slamming" the Black Album. I dig it. But I've never thought it lived up to the hype created when Prince decided to pull it's release because it was "too dark". Most of the album is actually pretty up, and it sometimes approaches a happy silliness. But I'll stand by my point that it originates around the same era as SOTT and Lovesexy. I don't believe it's as good as either of those, and releasing it years later made if feel even weaker.

Yeah what's more interesting than listening to an album that's been raped with autotune, 50 guitars, vocal layering, pro tools and synths? Underneath that mess I would like to believe are actual songs that hold credibility for I know Axl's a mad musician. Anyone who could write a song like Estranged has my support.. but he TOTALLY went off the depend with CD. Everything I thought and believed GN'R stood for was destroyed thanks to him.
At least Slash stayed true to his roots and treats his fans well and for the love of God carries a positive attitude.
[Edited 5/20/10 19:23pm]

Give over....there's no autotune on CD and the Slash album smacks of desperation what with some of the singers who appear on it.

lol
Then I suppose it was the same raw lungs who belted "oh won't you please take me home" on the intro of Street Of Dreams.
Give me a break.
"Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

Oh yeah, something else I hadn't commented on yet. Slash is EXTREMELY gracious to fans. He'll sit and talk with them for hours after his solo shows. He has absolutely remained positive and humble through the ups and downs with TWO major rock bands. And he still wears his top hat with pride! lol

I don't if Axl is really racist; he's just a poorly educated mid-western white trash, who was too insecure, young and angry in 1988, when he wrote that fucking song (One in a Million, which has written "ATTENTION WHORE" all over it, anyway...)

Axl is bipolar, that's "all"... lol

Chinese democracy is no masterpiece, but in terms of live shows, axl and his current band under the banner of gnr cut it above slash, duff and Matt. I saw gnr twice since the reform and they were phenomenal. Leeds festival was a blistering set. Glasgow, izzy made an appearence for a few songs.
Slashs book gives a good insight into the breakdown of guns, pretty funny read too. Slash and duff need axl. As much as I rate them on their own merrits, the chemistry has not been there with their previous frontmen in vr. I gave up on a reunion a long time ago as I did with the stone roses.

Axl Rose has filed a $5 million lawsuit against his former manager, Irving Azoff, saying that he sabotaged sales of Guns N’ Roses’ comeback album and lied about a potential “super tour” with Van Halen (which Mr. Azoff manages) as part of a plan to force Mr. Rose to reunite with his estranged former band members.

Mr. Rose, the lead singer and only remaining original member of Guns N’ Roses, says in his suit that Mr. Azoff failed to promote his 2008 album, “Chinese Democracy,” and deliberately mishandled concert dates, “forcing Rose into a position where he would have no choice but to reunite with the original members of Guns N’ Roses for a reunion tour.”

It is a response to another lawsuit filed in March by Mr. Azoff – who in addition to being a leading artist manager is also the executive chairman of Live Nation Entertainment — which said that Mr. Rose owed him $1.9 million in unpaid management fees. Mr. Azoff became Mr. Rose’s manager in early 2008, and “Chinese Democracy” was released in November through an exclusive retail deal with Best Buy.

Mr. Rose also accuses Mr. Azoff of name-calling. “Out of spite and vindictiveness to cause Rose emotional distress and harm,” his suit says, the lawsuit Mr. Azoff filed in March uses Mr. Rose’s adopted name, William Bailey, instead of his legal name, W. Axl Rose. “Azoff knew that the name William Bailey carries significant emotional damage.”

When asked to comment on Mr. Rose’s suit, Mr. Azoff said in a statement on Tuesday: “On advice of counsel I cannot respond at this time, but will discuss in my upcoming book, ‘My Life With William Bill Bailey.’”

i was at the soundesk. axl was late as he had a late demand to have a particular food for dinner. all that time he was late was because he was away for food, eating and then returning, and not giving a fuck about the audience

i spoke to a woman who said her and her partner were huge fans and looking forward to seeing them as they hadn't in years but saw them a few times in the 80s and 90s. they had been waiting hours, but were so pissed off at him they didn't stay to the end of the show. i think they travelled reasonably far to see him too

it was an alright performance, but the covers were all cheesy and unnecessary. wtf were they playing somewhere over the rainbow and a xtina cover song, and live and let die and did they do knocking on heavens door too? they could have just played the first album in full and said goodnight after 50 mins and everyone would have been happy. none of that were under an illusion that this is good stuff. did they not do a hello cleveland by forgetting he was in scotland? i recall people booing at the mention of england

haha, yes all of the above is correct. The food story doesn't surprise me. There is no question he is an ass. But the more clues up audience members should know his diva ways by now. Hence the reason I got bladdered in the bar instead of standing in a sea of sweat for 2 hrs.
He was 2hrs late for the Leeds show too but unfortunately I had to wait that one out as they were directly after the prodigy so I was already far down anyways. To his credit he stayed on an extra hour over his set time, much to the frustration of the event organizers. Needless to say, a charged up crowd after the prodigy were spitting feathers waiting for axl to swagger on stage. The boos soon turned to cheers tho, I swear it was an amazing set.
The over the rainbow cover blowed, but they played enough off appetite to keep me entertained.

i wasn't sweating at the soundboard and spent most of the time in the bar etc, purposely avoiding the warm up acts, so it wasn't a problem. it was a bit of a late ending compared to the normal SECC shows. i heard he was late at at least one other show, in fact it might have been all the shows at least before that one. didn't axl tell the crowd to fuck off when they boo'd or something? something about the door is over there and you can leave if you want, as a reaction to the crowd booing him being late. sebastian bach or someone like that was a guest on a couple of tracks too. i had heard of him but i'm not a rock/metal fan normally, guns n roses are rock n roll to me, like ledzep, not utter noise like emo/numetal bands and no songs about the devil which is the sign of a metal band

Yea Sebastian Bach is actually a good singer, he fronted skid row back in the day, and their self titled album is really good, if slightly cheesy in parts. I was kinda hoping he would have been there but izzy was a surprise. Saw the new skid row frontman play with them at the garage in Glasgow, he is not bad too.
Axl was tellin folks to fuck off yea. If memory serves. The big burley rock steady bouncers were handing out thimble sized cups of water to us at the front. No wonder some of the smaller students were collapsing with dehydration.
Robin fink is technically sound on the guitar but he lacks the bluesy rock style that slash posesses and is the backbone to alot of gnr tracks.
There is no question, that if the crowd give him shit, he gives it back. YouTube is bursting with clips of him in confrontations with his fans. Fuck I recall seeing one clip of him diving into the crowd to beat the shit out of someone.

$5 million sounds actually quite reasonable. That's probably the type of money he could have gotten from the album sales alone had it sold like expected. 2-3 million copies more, perhaps? Plus radio play.
