Yeah, when something is done to the point of overkill it loses it's edge. The current state of the corporate controlled music business is all about the bottom line which means less room for originality and artist development. The trend continues toward formulaic themes and over the top gimmicks. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Yeah and that's basically why I can't really follow what those guys do anymore, it's like anything these current crop of people do is for shock value and artistry is secondary.

They're all beauties in their natural form, though. What kind of art director chooses to do that to Christina Aguilera's face?? They don't have to be in headwraps and peacock feathers like india.arie but DAMN

It's the gimmicks that are wack. The problem is that 95% of today's artists care more about image and crappy gimmicks and not artistic talent and quality sound of music. This is way I stopped listening to the radio. I don't care about this generations music. Most of it is nothing more than recreating stuff from back in the day and making it dry, tastless crap.

DesireeNevermind said: I don't like it. Think it's sexist or rather anti-woman to say the least. The concept of this type of art is that women are not really human but rather a sum of parts that can be manipulated, altered, traded and controlled by the user. It's not even visually pleasing as it makes the female artist look more fake than they already do. Badu said on Mo'Nique's show that she is a woman and therefore not happy with her body. That is sad to say the least. Yes she is evolving and learning to love herself the way she is but the robot cover among other things just tells us that women will never truly love being women but will always try and be what they think men or society want them to be.
Christina's cover is most dissappointing. She's not a bionic space woman but an android feminine mannequin. Her look has been overly dramatized for some time. She is the maybeline spokeswoman/terminatrix. I do believe her hair has fallen out. Oh and lets not forget Bey's metal hand garb which looks like something out of Star Wars. I think she rocked that Metropolis outfit in her sweet dream video. 1. Conspiracies aside, I think THAT^ is the point of it all. Almost every female artist that are using the "Metropolis Fembot" gimmick are admitting that they are NOT in control of their image OR in change of the music creativity like they should. 2. The name of the disappointed single is Not Myself Tonight. I feel that Christina was telling the truth about herself in that song because in recent weeks she has pretended that she was someone/something else but Christina. 3. Beyonce copied from Kylie after watching the live video how Kylie was successful with the "Metropolis Fembot" gimmick in her live show. Like anything else (especially the dance moves for Single Ladies), Beyonce recycles old ideas from yesteryear and successfully sell them all as if it's "original" but isn't.

I have to admit, Badu seemed to have more of a concept to it.
Just sayin' if we see another album cover like this, all I'm going to do is laugh

That's the vibe I am getting from this: "fembot" I didn't see this image trend catching on with any male singers. Cinnie & Desire, you might find what I'm about to same as potentially borderline sexist, but it's not intended to be taken as such. But.... I think male artists are better at selling the robotic gimmick as entertainment than female artist. Kraftwerk, Roger/Zapp, Midnight Star, & Daft Punk knew on to do it right. Kraftwerk especially because those 4 original band members were not only in control of their imagie & creativity, but they used to take it a step further in builting their own synths & drum machines. No record executive told them to do it. These men did it because they wanted to break new ground in the music industry and they had the tracks to back it up. Now in comparing to what is going on with today's female artists going robotic, I do NOT see the kind of drive (no pun intended) inside them that wanted to take the music industry to the next level as much as I could see the drive that was pushing Kraftwerk back in the days. All I see is a bunch of females that knows that they are puppets (fembots) and they can NOT do anything else but copying off each other.

I agree with ya Cinne. Especially since none of these women do anything robotic in/with the albums (like vocal effects or dancing), lol. I like when album covers actually correspond to the music. What's the point of dressing like a robot when nothing about your image is robotic? "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. It not only stops there though; you aren't just miserable as a career woman and supposedly can't find a man....you're also potentially lesbian as we are seeing with our next possible supreme court justice and all the gossip that surrounds her because she is of a certain age and unmarried. It's a given to me that men will perpetuate these types of images but when women feed into it, it's especially troubling because it seems that we have not come as far as we think we have. We have little girls dancing around in bikinis to Bey's single ladies. We have one of the strongest female vocalists (Christina Aguilera) parading around like a second rate Brittney Spears and we have Beyonce who is a very talented singer IMHO wearing dresses that seem to get shorter and shorter with each video. Plus my goddess Mariah done lost her mind. I wonder why any female music artists who believes she can sing and supposedly writes, plays an instrument and provokes and inspires would feel the need to either bare her body or make herself out to be a product off the Cyberdine systems manufacturing line. And we wonder why Niki Minaj is so popular. To me though, I have nothing against ANYTHING thats sincere. Sade Adu bared her body for a cancer ad and it was beautiful. Grace Jones did all of the so-called avant garde fashion statements that these ladies are now discovering and she separated herself from her peers by doing so, but what these broads didn't GET, it didn't boil to style when it came to Grace because if it were, she wouldn't be here today, the woman had quality which I can't really say about 90% of artists today. I don't judge those ladies for considering "sex" as the be all, end all, they're products of their environment,,,but I don't raise my eyebrow when they drop like flies every year in exchange for a younger blood,,,,,they made their bed. And call me jaded, but I didn't raise my eyebrows when I saw those lil' girls doing the "Single Ladies" bit,,,,after Miley Cyrus' lil' sister releasing a lingerie line, nothing else will shock me. I've seen some LOW stuff in my life, but when it comes down to PIMPING & EXPLOITING your own flesh & blood, instead of protecting from the mere thought of that act,,,then I think you reached the bottom. Be as it made, I will NEVER apologize for speaking out against the idea of a bunch of 7 to 8-year-old girls with those outfits on that make them look like a bunch of whores while dancing to a Beyonce song. As a single man with no children, that performance disappointed the hell out of me. And what piss me off the most about the ordeal is the fact that none of the parents reportedly have no issue with the outfits that their daughters had to wear. Good f***ing grief, whatever happen to men that once knew how to be fathers protecting their daughters' best interest?!? And whatever happen to women that once knew to the be mothers teaching their daughters how to be respected as ladies?!? We can all say what we will about The Mary Jane Girls, Vanity 6, The Spice Girls, OR The Pussycat Dolls. But if I dare to say anything else, it's a fact that at least they were grown women that were dressing like whores. Ages 18 and over is the rule, NOT under 18.
