That's completely true. Despite average sales in the UK, old and new metal bands enjoy strong sales all over Europe...I'm talking about +500.000 albums sold, at least, and Top20 positions in the mainstream charts...and let's not forget the HUGE tours in France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Greece and Poland...

Very sad news for family, friends and fans.

In many ways, metal is dead. Besides being talented, he really seemed like a cool and smart guy! I loved seeing him on those VH1 shows discussing music.

THAT^ is totally not true.

Metal (heavy, pop, thrash, or otherwise) is still alive and well. It just can't sell well in North America like it used to. Even Ronnie himself admitted that real metal fans are in Europe.

I was thinking more symbolically, really. He was a really respected star of the genre.

I am so glad I went and saw Heaven and Hell a couple of years ago. I got to see the man and here the voice.

I'm sure Rhoads, Dimebag, Cliff Burton, and Bonzo are going to be thrilled their band has a new lead singer.

Been blasting all the old school Dio/Sab/Rainbow and H&H all day.

Not a big heavy/thrash metal fan, but my favorite Dio songs are:

No sticky? You mods suck. Lena Horne gets a sticky but Dio can't, again, you suck. I'm not saying one is better than the other but a difference was made and I think it's offensive.

Loving all the praise for this talented singer/songwriter. It's so sad when someone from your youth dies because it reminds you that we're getting older.

I'm probably the only dude from my old neighborhood who loved metal acts like Dio and Judas Priest, as well as loving the "uncool" groups like Duran Duran or Human League for example.

These days I listen more to Pop & R&B (as seen in my love for Maxwell and my many threads on him).

From 1983 to 1985 I really loved RJD with the albums "Holy Diver", "Last In Line" and "Sacred Heart".

There's a special tomorrow night on VH1 on him, I will definitely watch it.
