I agree with you about these ladies. I really feel that these ladies are trailblazers on so many different levels. They bauked the industry a LONG time ago. Whether it be Millie using profanity or Betty telling her view of life. Betty was also one of the first "major" independent artists that I knew. She crossed over and has had some big success with songs like "No Pain, No Gain" and "After the Pain".

I wish u guys could hear Millie's radio show. Sometimes, she discusses her friendship with people like Betty and Denise Lasalle. She tells some really good stories of how Betty had to fight record companies and of how she won her case against Dr. Freeze and Color Me Badd for sampling her work without proper clearance.

Is there a way we can listen to Millie's radio show on-line?

Unfortunately, no. I have begged and pleaded with KKDA-AM to stream. They won't do it. They put their money into their FM stations, K104 (k104fm.com) and KRNB (krnb.com).

Outside of Millie, the station is really good. They play mostly classic soul (stuff u don't hear anymore hardly anywhere), jazz and gospel.

I blame Betty Wright for the mess that is Joss Stone. History will not treat her kindly.

She's a bad bitch. My favorite are her live albums. She talks plenty of shit.

I hate those two songs.....too late 1980s sounding. My favorites from her are her 1970s songs "The Clean Up Woman", "The Babysitter", "Secretary", "Tonight Is The Night", "Shoo Ra, Shoo Ra", "It's Hard To Stop (Doing Something That Feels Good To You)", etc.



Denise LaSalle is a bad bitch. She's in her 70s and talks plenty of shit. It just goes to show that you can still be old as hell and continue to be nasty as hell. Some of her jams as recent as the 2000s has her singing about "lick it before you stick it" and "you better work on that little man in the boat". She had me rolling when she sang about getting a man that can "make my coochie snap, crackle, and pop".

Never heard of Denise, but I agree Unsung should do eps on Betty and Millie

I never knew how knowledgeable Millie really was. She does not have a manager. If you want to book her for a show, you call HER and no one else. If you want to sample one of her songs, you call HER to get the clearance and she talks to YOU.

I love hearing her tell stories of being on the road and all of the different celebrities she would interact with.

I've always loved Millie, although I had to sneak and listen to her records when I was a kid.

I didn't discover Betty until I was in high school when she put out that amazing CD "Mother Wit" with "No Pain, No Gain" and "After the Pain". I still play that CD on a regular basis.

Millie Jackson is one of my favorites. Honestly though, while I love her bold, tell-it-like-it-is attitude, I'm not a big fan of her really crass material of the 80s, but rather of the string of respectable soul albums she had in the 70s.

I've yet to get deep into Betty Wright, but it's been on my to-do list for a while now.
