I wouldn't be surprised if he had his right hand bitch, Smokey Robinson making a cameo in the movie [Edited 5/19/10 4:54am] They're gonna Disney-ized this shit. Well least I hope not but you never know. I can see it now, they'll upgrade Smokey's cameo role to playing the role of Marvin Pentz Gay, Sr. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

He'd have me laughing too much. I think Clarence could bring more intensity to the role than him. Just my opinion. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

OK...So then what is the REAL DEAL on the "Sexual Healing" flick with Jesse? Did they even start filming it? Were the rights for Marvin's music granted for the film? Any release date?
This flick will probably come out when the big screen Jimi bio-pic comes out...(never). And Howard as Marvin is sacreligious. Everyone knows Jesse is the man.

I think you can forget about Jesse's film. No one's gonna watch a biopic that focus on one era of someone's life especially if their life was as eventful as Marvin's was.

ThreadBare said: Harlepolis said: Hmmm,, They're developing a character BASED ON HER, they wouldn't even let her see the script. I say she does have grounds, karma or none. She's a public figure whose role and actions have been well documented by journalists and historians alike. I think her legal team would only be able to attempt a defamation suit, but I think they'd have to wait until after the release to pursue it. But, I have no law degree... None. i don't have a law degree either but a) i'm studying for my paralegal certificate and b) the lack of a law degree has never stopped me from offering my opinion before, so why start now! it is very, very, very difficult for a public figure to be 'defamed' in america. we just studied this case of a san fran politician who was running for governor in cali back in the 70s. a magazine ran a highly defamatory piece on him in which they accused him of consorting with the mob. he lost the nomination of his party and obviously his bid for governor was over. the story was not true. not one bit. he sued, but in the end, he lost. in order for a public figure to prevail, they have to prove, among other things, that the story didn't have an public interest, and the reporter acted with malice and had reason to believe that the story was untrue. it is very difficult to prove that. you would think that the burden would be on the reporter to 'get the story right', but a reporter doesn't have to do his or her homework, or can just believe what is told to him or her by a source without checking the other side. the reporter will just say that they had no reason to believe it was 'untrue'. should they check all sides? yes, but the fact is you have the right to be a 'bad' reporter, without it being considered malicious. that's why the clintons didn't sue all those right-wingers who accused bill of rape and running drugs out of mena, ark. and why mj rarely went after his media accusers. it's just such a losing proposition for a public figure. you're throwing away your money on legal fees, and even if you win, you're not going to see a retraction in the paper that was as big as the original story.

(hello? - gwyneth paltrow over everyone else in the best actress category that year? travesty!) BUT having said that, you'd be in the minority in thinking that diana ross did not do an outstanding job as billie holiday. she certainly deserved the fake ass award over liza minelli.

I'm in the minority then because I enjoyed Cabaret over that hollywood circus show they called a "Billie Holiday" story. I do agree that her acting was good, but it was the ONLY good thing about the film.

The choreography was awesome and I actually liked Liza in that role lol It was a popular film too so I could see in a way WHY she won it. I think it was bad timing for Diana. Plus let's not forget Motown's shameless campaign. People in the press blamed Berry Gordy for Diana's loss.

I think both got STRONG compaigns for the wrong reasons; Diane because the Berry Gordy connection, and Liza(who to this day) folks say that the award was Hollywood's way of apology to her mother who never got one. Needless to say, I think everything about Cabaret is flawless,,,,the fashion, the choreography, the setting, the STORY(unpredictable by MILES than Hollywood's tuned down bullshit version of what they think of Billie Holiday) and most of all the whole CAST
