California funk

I was interested to see if anybody has any California funk recommendations, particularly from the 80s.

Somebody on this site recently posted Tease, and some songs (thank you).

I wanted to know which artists/songs I should listen to.

Am I right in saying a distinct sound came out of California in the 80s?

Thank you

Def post 80's but still (and always) the BOMB...........

Get to em any way you choose......

But for my money, best funk band doin it in this time period (and NOW)....straight outta Long Beach...is SLAPBAK.

Jara Harris is a funk madman..YouTube it.....Itunes...Rhap hit it....fileshare all day long on any of em.

Their catalog alone (1992-2010) is FORMIDABLE. If you ain't GOT...........GET.

SLAPBAK was so underrated!!!!

Fast Food Funkateers is still a fave at my backyard shindigs.

That's right, I said "shingdig". I'm 40, and I don't care.

Thank you for the replies, people.

Yeah, I've heard Slapbak (and Confunkshun of course).

Slapbak had Fingazz in it, who is now a westcoast hip hop producer. Much of what he makes is nice and funky, and he is very good on the talkbox. I think he now longer works with them though, but I may be wrong.
