Stevie - Ribbon in the Sky Written back in 1969, recorded in 1981 and released in 1982, a true classic that never got the full attention it initially deserved.

I absolutely love that song, but there was a period where I got so tired of it because EVERY wedding I went to used it as "their song". "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Ditto on the wedding thing. And more than half of those marriages broke up, too. Culturally speaking... Black Wedding = Ribbon in the Sky White Wedding = At Last Katie Kinisky: "So What Are The Latest Dances, Nell?"

I had 2 post the video.
I don't agree with u, Tim, that it does not get the attention it deserves. I think it does. It's a beautiful ballad and probably Stevie's most popular r&b ballad. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

This is one of the few songs of Steive, I really don't care for. I kinda thought it was OK, now I can't stand it. Maybe it's the lyrics, it sounds better to me as an instrumental.

Heh, a friend of mine once said he wanted to use "Ribbon In The Sky" at his wedding. I like the song...but I wouldn't use it because it's used to often. I personally would have the "For Once In My Life" cover by the Temptations. Yeah, "At Last" is my other friend's wedding song! Coincidentally, she's white.

I ripped this and the three other "new" songs from Original Musiquarium. I think he was gonna do his next album based on these songs but he never got around it.
Here's my personal favorite:

I know, right? She's gonna say she don't like it and then leave without much of an explanation? Here's a hint Trina, don't listen to the radio, after a while not hearing it, play it again, you might have a new appreciation.

I'm sure my fellow '90s children remembered this version:
Their remix to this was as great too. Stevie actually guested in their video, he shows up at the beginning of it, he was starting to sport his dreads at that point.

I agree. Love the rap. And the ending when he calls out Earl DeRouen and Dennis Davis.

It'something I can't put my finger one... the pace of the song, the singing pitch. Though last year I did played 'Ribbon in the Sky' at every other wedding I played at. I've already talk one couple out of it, this season. Timmy, Hey, the pizza man was at the door last night. ===== [Edited 5/7/10 10:03am]

Since I'm a guitarist, (acoutstic steel/nylon string) I'm hired usually to play solo. So, I don't have to play "Candy".
