Probably because the old gal is having IRS troubles again...

"Aretha Franklin fails to pay tax bill
Robert Snell / The Detroit News

Less than two years after recovering from a $190,000 delinquent tax bill, and narrowly avoiding foreclosure of her mansion overlooking the Detroit Golf Club, Aretha Franklin has new tax problems.

The state of Michigan filed a lien against the "Queen of Soul" last month accusing her of owing more than $11,000 in delinquent income taxes. The address on the lien is Franklin's $1.8 million home in Bloomfield Hills.

It is the latest in a string of late payments and debt that drew headlines two years ago. Franklin paid off those debts and took her lien-free pipes -- and hat -- to President Obama's inauguration last year.

But Franklin also owes 2009 delinquent taxes of $33,729 on her Bloomfield Hills home, according to the Oakland County Treasurer's Office. If unpaid, she would face foreclosure in 2012.
What's owed

• The state of Michigan filed an $11,076 lien against Franklin on March 23 with the Oakland County Register of Deeds. According to the lien, the income taxes were assessed Dec. 11, 2009.
Her side

Franklin said she unintentionally neglected to pay the tax bill.

"It is always my intentions to pay my taxes on time and generally and most times I always do," she said. "However, I have been traveling a lot lately and in concert and sometimes when you're traveling it becomes a little difficult. It will be taken care of as soon as I return home." "

^^^doh!

I almost went to the Jazz fest this year, I would've been bummed had she not been there. I was really going to see Teena Marie, but I did want to see ReRe and BB King too.

Earth Wind And Fire filled in for her. She wasn't missed.

http://www.nola.com/jazzf...es_an.html

She has canceled Jazz Fest twice so she isn't needed. Unless she can plug the hole in the Gulf.

Hopefully she will be healthy and resume her touring schedule.

on the Perez Hilton site the things people posted about Aretha are unreal.

http://perezhilton.com/20...ance-again

She needs to retire, period. Her best days are behind her, and with the weight, horrible dresses and bad attitude, it all leaves less than a regal legacy for a woman that once was the nbest damned female singer on planet earth.
The real reason she cancelled will never be revealed - but think weather and the dire predictions. She has lots of fears, and storms, height, floods, etc, are just some of them.
She cancelled one time in Florida because of the forest fires they were having, and she was already in the city, but had that tour bus hit the road with the quickness after seeing a report on CNN, LOL

I never said you don't have Freedom of Speech, stupid. I just found it ironic that you would say "people are posting unreal things on Aretha". When you do the same shit about other artists on here.

So it goes both ways.

Now move along arrow

She's been blathering on and on about it for the past 2 years. Last I heard, it was going to be released on her own label, exclusively thru Walmart or somebody. But, that was a while ago. Aretha's voice is in tatters. Part of me really wants to see a new CD from her but the other part of me is afraid of what it's going to sound like. eek

I'm thinking that her financial problems might have something to do with the CD being delayed. It's an "independent" release,so she is footing the bill.Looks like many artists are going through hard times right now shrug
