Jam of the Day: "Body Slam" by Bootsy Collins

This one was a sho-nuff ass shaker and my favorite Bootsy Collins jam. Anybody into this one?

that's the great thing about Bootsy :

his best funk jams.. they are.. too damn funky !

BODY SLAM is definitely 1 of his funkiest.

I dig his bass playing after the "chorus"..
then the percussion & the "slam that body" refrain (by "sting"Ray Davis??)

then that last synth part.. sounds like Bernie to me.

anyway - definitely 1 of Bootsy's funkiest
I'll see you tonight..

This jam was a nice surprise for 1982. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall this being a one-off single; not being from any album, just a released single and 12". Oddly enough, Bootsy did indeed put out an album for Warners that year, under the name William "Bootsy" Collins, which was a solid album, but no Body Slam. The album contains a similarly-sounding cut titled, "Countracula", which could've been the orignal inception of Body Slam, much like "Irresistable Bitch" surfaced from the "Cloreen Bacon Skin" sessions with Prince and Morris.

Nice cowbell break in the song, too.

It was. It just ended up being different enough from the original (and superior) that that fact wasn't focused on). It was also released well after the "One Giveth" album & couldn't really be called "a remix..or extended version" of "Countracula"...whaich hadn't been released as a a single. It just ended up being a "nice surprise", like you said. Glad he had the good sense to get it out there, even as a one-off 12. Fun stuff & a great jam.

This is the original untouched version.

Hate when that happens - this is a big difference.
