Is Sly Stone technically crazy

or is he the kind of crazy that comes with doing all those drugs or is he crazy in the artistic sense?

So, what is he, bipolar? And why does his neck hang from such an odd angle?

Drugs i believe affected his posture as well.
You knew something was up when this dude was
absent from the public eye for 15 years.

I know Bobby Womack often talked of how he
tried to help Sly get off of drugs and get
his life straight and Sly seemed to have
gotten his act together in the mid to late 80's
and then from 1991-2005 he was a total recluse.
Vibe did a story on the guy in 95 and
all they could do is get a little info from one
of his ex bandmates. Not many people at that time
knew what was up with Sly at the time.

So someone who is bi-polar is "crazy"? Not a very nice word to use about anyone.
I suffer from bi-polar, have done for years, and i actually find the "crazy" word quite insulting.

Sly has just been through allot in his life as a performer and it has taken it's toll. My girlfriend suffers from bi-polar disorder, and even though she does, she is still a functioning member of society. She just has to take her meds, which it makes it easier for her to deal. I know that you did not mean to offend anyone, Script. What I have done, since she has been diagnosed is educate myself about it. You will be surprised at what you find.

Didn't Michael Jackson buy his catalogue in the early 80's?

Thank you, Trini. When I want to offend anyone, boy will they know it!

The rumor was that Sly needed money for drugs and he sold the catalogue to MJ on the cheap.

Really? Wow, thats really sad. I guess its not so bad that an artist, as opposed to a straightforward buisnessman, bought his catalogue.

I don't know what the fuck Sly was thinking in turning MJ down. Now Sly is suing his manager for not treating him properly after 30 years.

I think, Sly has had it with fame. There was a point where he was just pushing just the "Family" part of "Sly & The Family Stone" and he was going to release an album featuring them. He is supposed to have an album coming out sometime this year, so we'll see.

There are a few stories that have been posted about that.

That neck brace was not for show, and is a serious concern. Ken Roberts, Stone’s original manager who worked with the artist from 1968-74, said during the show that for the past two years Stone has had a growth on the back of his neck that has gone untreated because Stone fears visiting a doctor. Thus, he was hunched over like a question mark and appeared uncommonly frail.

When Sly himself was asked during a 2007 Vanity Fair article...

Sly Stone and his lady companion, who I learn is named Shay, disembark from the chopper and walk toward the shop. He applies pink baby lotion to his hands, which I notice are huge, with elongated, tapering fingers. He's still very slim—there was never a Fat Sly period—and he does not appear frail, as several recent reports have described him. In fact, he moves rather well, especially for a 64-year-old man who's just spent time scrunched into a custom-chopper cockpit. But he has the same hunched posture he had at the '06 Grammys—a bit like Silvio Dante's in The Sopranos—and he wears a neck brace.

He doesn't flinch when I broach the subject of his hunched posture and neck brace, but it's clear he doesn't want to break out the M.R.I.'s, either. "I fell off a cliff," he says. "I was walking in my yard in Beverly Hills, missed my footing, and started doing flips. But you know what? I had a plate of food in my hand. And when I landed, I still had a plate of food in my hand. That's the God-lovin' truth. I did not drop a bean."

Take your pick.

There will finally be new material from Sly this summer and then we will see and hear how crazy he really is!!!!! I can't wait!!! Most of todays music lacks the creativity and out of the box design that the profit Sly Stone has given us. After 30 or more years, I probably wouldn't want to play my old music anymore without preforming anything new.

Define insanity.

Define 'normal'

I think it best to leave Sly the fuck alone without casting judgment.

I have Bi-Polar. I developed it after nearly dying of Bacterial Meningitis. I struggle with it every day.

Thanks for suggesting I am 'crazy'. I really appreciate it. Though I'd rather be 'crazy' than a narrow-minded, careless idiot.

Maybe you didn't read all the post but script girl acknowledge and apologized for using insensitive /inappropriate word(s). It would have been different if she hadn't acknowledge her error but she did. If that's not enough, oh well.

The stigma of mental illness is often worse than the illness itself.

And if she'd written that about AIDs or Cancer ... ?

Would she have been so insensitive?

Exactly. Stigma. I've seen it with friends and family who have suffered from depression and I'm seeing it here, however much one aoplogises.

She probably just upset him/her badly. Naturally, he/she is going to be sensitive, he/she is struggling with the illness. He/she may not even 'mean' it.

But mental stability and illness is always going to be a 'hot topic'. Reactions should be expected.

I think this depends on the individual. As I mentioned before, my girlfriend is Bi-Polar and I myself, was born with a disability that has effected my legs as well as my height. If she or I let every comment or critism bother us, both of us would slit our throats. Yes, words do effect us, but you could either let them hinder you or motivate you. She and I choose to use those words as motivation.

I just think Sly took a lot of bad judgment plus being on drugs didn't help matters.
