Saw Corinne Bailey Rae over the wknd Saw her at St. Andrews in Detroit on Saturday. She was great!! Her voice is effortless. She is very sweet and humble in person and likes to just "stick to the music". i think as she grows as an artist perhaps she'll learn to interact with the audience in a way that feels natural for her. save for a some poor song placements near the end of the set and an encore of Que Sera, Sera (cover) instead of Enchantment which myself and others were hoping for, it was a great show at an intimate venue.
Daniel Merriweather opened and was unexpectedly soulful. i was disappointed upon buying the album to hear that it wasn't as stripped down as his set.

I saw Corinne in LA at the St. Viviana church a couple of weeks ago. It was sponsored by KCRW. And the show was amazing. Small and intimate. She really is the real thing IMO. Saw her again last week at the Coachella Music Fest and I was curious if how her show would translate outdoors under the hot sun in a larger venue. She kicked some serious Coachella ass. The Sea is one of my favorite records of the year.
I also saw Daniel Merriweather at another KCRW event back in February and it was a small acoustic style set on a Sunday afternoon. That performance was ok but not as funky as his show at the Troubador a couple of days later. That show was loud and funky and had the whole club grooving. "...literal people are scary, man literal people scare me out there trying to rid the world of its poetry while getting it wrong fundamentally down at the church of "look, it says right here, see!" - ani difranco
