"Video blocked in some (all?) countries"???

If you noticed that you can't watch a certain video on YouTube, they'll tell you not only of its "ownership" but also that it's blocked in this country or whatever, I viewed the copyright info of videos I uploaded and sometimes it's blocked everywhere except for the uploader themselves. To me that's just NO fun, how are you gonna be expected to enjoy what I watch and you can't see it? It's not fair. There's other places you can see the video I posted I just felt like I felt, well if the original "Transit Ostend" documentary can be seen in YouTube, surely, the 2001 documentary of it, or whatever year it was, can be seen by everybody but I guess not.

I'm not mad or sad or anything, it's just that well you win some, you lose some. smile

Sometimes, this could have happened by accident due to the uploader not being tech savy with settings. The owner of the video, just uploads it and that's it. He does not bother to check the settings of his account.

Yeah I know and that's what I was doing until today. When someone at another board said they couldn't see my "Remember Marvin Gaye" videos because the copyright owner had basically blocked it from a lot of countries, I had to check and sure enough, a lot of the videos where it was blocked, it was blocked off most countries. That's when I just said "fuck it".

Anyway, I got a new channel, I just sent you a friend invite, trini, I'll send an orgnote.

I wonder if it has to do with copyright laws and licensing?

I don't think it has to do with nothing. Ever since YouTube became corporate, the only thing you can upload is YouTube Poop or ten-minute videos of you doing absolutely nothing.

See so it don't just happen with "copyrighted" music.

No i dont think its that, because most of the things i was looking for that got that reading came from artists that i cant see having "copyright" issues, but then again, stranger things have happend

thats very true, YouTube has become the place to post weird shit that your pets do, or concert footage shot by someone on their phone and i have TO HEAR THEM SING THE SONG, and they always cant sing, or the person who cant stay still with a camera.

i was watching some a-ha tour footage from the shows in South America last month, and constantly it was posted by a person who had to sing along every single word with their horrible off key voice, damn if i wanted to hear joe schmo sing a-ha off key i would ask for it.

Can't you just get around this by using an anonymous proxy browser thingy? I used to do that to watch stuff on Showtime's website (it's blocked to the UK)...

I probably could... I would think if everyone used proxies, then they can see videos but that's not entirely fair to me. shrug

Most of us here know WEA has blocked pretty much everything they own (including Atlantic and Electra artists as they were assosiated with WB). So if you personally upload any major act on those labels, odds are heavinly against you.

More recently it also seems sony is blocking alot of shit as well. Not taking stuff down as much as blocking new users from uploading their artists.

Iam not sure how it is done? I think it is word sensitive. If you upload a major artist and say who it is in your title, your screwed (with WB and sometimes Sony it seems). BUT, as it does seem word sensitive, you might be able to upload a really obscure WEA artist as they havn't got around to blocking that person/group yet, if thast makes any sense?

Thats just a guess though.

I know what you mean, I was just checking my timmy841212 account and I got at least one strike for posting MJ's "Love Never Felt So Good". Sony took it down before I could. confused So far that's the only one.

I have quite of few videos on my external HDD that have been blocked. Whatever. What I find kinda amusing over half of my videos have been jazz music, nobodies really listening to jazz these days. The music industry is trying to hold on (I guess) to some semblance of control of how music heard.

They need to create some software for Youtube members were we can run titles of an artist/song through sometype of systems check, to know what can be uploaded and what can't.

Really? I just don't see the logic in blocking old songs/videos that would otherwise might be never seen or heard? I understand for new stuff, but old stuff? Why? LOL. Very annoying.

Because they don't want the user to express themselves. I'm thinking of uploading videos on Dailymotion and other videos. YouTube's got on my nerves lately.

Yeah the record companies. I still think YouTube being with Google is what led to labels getting involved. It was doing alright way before that happened.

LOL in general anything that was at first original and new and fresh etc.. gets worse and worse once the media and businesses in general comes in. Same with any "art" unfortunately it seems.
