You're into something, Hatrina.

I suspected that Guru may have never come out of a coma and if he did was not well enough to write or dictate that letter.

I understand (supposedly) trying to respect someone's privacy but dude dancing around whether he was in a medically-induced coma or not had the alarms ringing once again.

I don't know the backstory, but the COMMON ground for the all talk about this whole thing; its that this Solaar character is VERY shady. Primo did talk about how manipulative dude is in the past.

And that lil' news items about Guru's family being alienated confirms it.

As I think about this, whether these are Guru's last words or not, I actually have that much more respect for Primo: Here he is being publicly dissed in what could possibly be the last words of his former partner, and yet he has an honorable enough disposition to allow those words -- along with bids that Guru rest in peace -- to be posted on his own blog. That's some MAN stuff right there.

I hope he makes a public statement of condolence and respect for Guru and forgoes any shade that might brew between himself, Solar and a bunch of fans who'll likely wanna take sides. It just seems like another sullied legacy that hip hop doesn't need and that Guru deserves to be remembered as somewhat above.

We don't know but so what if they were? The only thing it changes is...it makes that Solar person look even more despicable for making that bullshitting ass letter be the last thing people remember about Guru. No partner of any kind would have done that nor kept him from his family in his time of need!

Yes they would, if the family was causing grief. I've seen this stuff in my own life. Just saying, we just don't know. What if the family was leeching off of him and trying to get him to sign something that his life partner knew was not something he wanted?

Look, like I said, I don't know any of these people personally nor do I know their circumstances but if these two kats were lovers, I wouldn't be jumping on Solar's back as quickly as everyone else is here. Especially since gay couple's don't have the same legal protections that straight couples do. Just saying. confused

Another thing: Since this Solar guy's hateability quotient has just skyrocketed, if I were French MC Solaar I might break my neck to make it abundantly clear that we are two different persons. timeout

I considered this as well. Could be the cause of some of the family issues especially if they weren’t accepting of Solar or the relationship. The last thing they’d want his for Solar to have control.

I'm thinking the same damn thing at THIS moment.

Are/were Guru & Solar boyfriends or something?!?

Given the homophobia that still exist in certain hip-hop/rap circles, I don't think the hip-hop purists are ready to hear the rest of this latest soap opera.

Fair enough.

But I still think it's very rude for all of Guru's relatives to be banned from saying their finally good-bye to him right before his death in the coma.

For better or worse, though, this sort of situation is gonna command a certain level of attention, and questions around Solar and Guru's relationship will inevitably be asked.

I hope the drama can be kept to a minimum. I do think that's below Guru. But if hypothetically there is evidence that Guru and Solar were lovers, if it allows the hip hop world to finally take on the question of homosexuality/homophobia in its ranks, perhaps maybe some good could come of it.

Good points but you're doing a lot of reaching to get to them and I just can't agree with you. There's something WRONG with this situation and I don't think it has anything to do with their sexuality. If Solar were female and trying to pull this same shit, I'd still feel as I do right now.

I just don't believe someone who had battled for their life and knew they'd lost the fight would have pinned or dictated a letter that barely mentions his son, doesn't mention any other family at all with the exception being that he "EXPECTS" them to "respect that he loves Solar and his family as his family". Yet it goes on for 24 lines about his "Ex DJ" without ever mentioning Premiere by name ONCE and didn't do a damn thing to mend whatever beef they had between them. Guru just never struck me as the type that would have held on that to kind of animosity, ESPECIALLY in the face of his own demise. That's just small and weak minded and GURU was neither small nor weak minded.

I still think it's bullshit and I just don't believe it came from Guru! shrug

If you just lost someone you loved deeply, would you expect people to be sympathetic to your situation and understand when you do something crazy like write a letter on behalf of your love one that might come off a bit assery?

I've seen loved ones do some crazy stuff when they have lost a mother, father, child, sibling. I guess, when it happens to me and I do something irrational, I hope people will understand the emotional turmoil and pain I am feeling that has caused the momentary lapse of judgement.

Guru/ Gangstar had some great songs may he RIP.

.....If you had bad feelings or dealings with someone you don't have to be all angelic and forgiving just because you're about to check out.

If that's how Guru felt, that's how he felt.
It is what it is.

Guru may very well have been at peace with himself and the fact that he expressed his honest feelings about someone who may have been foul in dealing with him.

One of those good things that definitely needs to come out of this is for all rappers (especially the males) of all human sexualities to stop being a bunch of sexual hypocrites on the music videos.

That Solar person is full of shit and I don't believe that letter for one second!! Those do not sound to me like the words of a man that knows he is about to die and those were the last words he wanted the world to see unless that man had some serious evil in his heart and I refuse to even consider that, that was Guru!

RIP Guru! rose

Those were my thoughts exactly. It just seems weird.

Plus, Solar used the exact same phrase word for word in his letter ("loyal partner, brother" blah blah blah).

hmm

Solar statement...
"The world has lost one of the best MCs and Hip-Hop icons of all-time — my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru,"

Gurus letter...
"My loyal best friend, partner and brother, Solar, has been at my side through it all and has been made my health proxy by myself on all matters relating to myself"

word for word.

fishy to basically anyone who has read the news.

Coming off a bit assery in a distressed emotional state over the loss of a loved one...is one thing and something that I actually could understand.

Publicly issuing a "death bed" letter of said loved one that seems very shady, totally uncharacteristic and impossible to have been accomplished because the loved one was in a coma that you kept lying about when asked directly...is another that I don't want to understand and I'm not going to try.
