WTF is going on???
Upon hearing the news, DJ Premier paid tribute to Guru on his blog, Djpremierblog.com. "Our warmest condolences to Guru's family and loved ones at this difficult time," he wrote. Guru's actual family are yet to comment on his death, although last month his nephew Justin Nicholas-Elam Ruff posted a YouTube video saying that Solar was not letting them see him during his illness. "Solar has completely cut us off. My family has no way of knowing what is going on with Guru's situation," he said in the video.

Sounds like he gave everything over to Solar. So sad. RIP. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
why sully your legacy this way?
I would say RIP, but evidently he was not at peace, and that's just really sad....

“I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ."
What the hell? I had no idea Premier and Guru had bad blood. The whole letter, especially in light of Guru's family saying what they said about Solar, reads really weird to me. Can we be sure that was written by Guru himself??

What did the family say? Space for sale...

That Solar person is full of shit and I don't believe that letter for one second!! Those do not sound to me like the words of a man that knows he is about to die and those were the last words he wanted the world to see unless that man had some serious evil in his heart and I refuse to even consider that, that was Guru!
RIP Guru! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

RIP Guru! Those were my thoughts exactly. It just seems weird. Plus, Solar used the exact same phrase word for word in his letter ("loyal partner, brother" blah blah blah). If it was all on the up and up, why would you shut the family out? Sounds like the same old story of some snake latching onto a vulnerable rich person, acting like their best friend and shutting everyone else out.

Something was definitely up when the nephew spoke out but I also find it odd that he would write a letter to fans and friends mentioning Solar as his proxy and that all ‘awards or tributes should be accepted, organized approved by Solar’. That’s between he and his family, not regular Joes. And no mention of the nephew who according to him looked up to him like a father. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

That letter is bogus.

Ouch.
I hope these aren't GURU's last words. In the meantime, may he rest in a peace clearly not present among the asses that he's left behind. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I know one thing. No one is feeling Solar right now.
And sorry about the letter.. he can't change how people view his legacy with DJ Premier. Leading up to this Premier had "get well" wishes. Just don't add up.

We don't know but so what if they were? The only thing it changes is...it makes that Solar person look even more despicable for making that bullshitting ass letter be the last thing people remember about Guru. No partner of any kind would have done that nor kept him from his family in his time of need! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I have zero proof, and don't know one of these people personally, but it seems to me that Solar wrote that letter. He probably got POA illegally, also. I asked Premier about their beef when I met him a few years ago, and he said even though they do not associate AT ALL anymore, he has nothing but love for him. It sounded and felt genuine. Whether that is true or not, who the hell knows. But like Cin said, NO ONE is on Solar's side. Just a dead man that can't speak for himself anymore. Sad all around. Guru and Primo hold an entire chapter in Hip Hop history IMO. As Gang Starr and solo artists. "Stop, think for a moment ok? and then sway while I convey that we must do away with all the stress and the strife, so God bless your life use kindness, and never blindness and you will find that this perspective is best, check it out these are the words that I manifest, I manifest!"

@questlove not trying to bring negativity into the situation. but i do NOT believe he wrote that letter. 1) he was in a coma. 2) HE WAS IN A COMA!
You're into something, Hatrina.

Really sad news. May he rest in peace. One of the most unique and distinguished voices in Hip Hop. The legacy of him and Primo will always remain but it´s really sad that they had to end up like that.I have always liked their work from day one, whether as a group or solo artists. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

oh no!
i just put "no more mr. nice guy" in my amazon wish list last MUTHAFUCKIN' NIGHT! Gangstarr was one of THE BEST groups in hip-hop,no doubt. Condolences to Premier & Guru's family.

You're into something, Hatrina. I suspected that Guru may have never come out of a coma and if he did was not well enough to write or dictate that letter. I understand (supposedly) trying to respect someone's privacy but dude dancing around whether he was in a medically-induced coma or not had the alarms ringing once again. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
