Ok, I'm here

It's about damned time.

You know I will just say this. I think the Pumpkins are just dreadful. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. In my view, they're just so mournful, noisy, and undisciplined. We played songs from Mellon Collie a lot when I worked at Record Town in Minneapolis. I couldn't stomach it. His whiny voice just makes me cringe. Also I had a double dose of them back then. They did two songs for the Batman and Robin soundtrack.

I also worked at the Warner Bros. store in the Mall of America, and we had a Laser disk player that played promos on the big screen. We usually had 4 disks shuffling. But at this time, we had one 45 minute program that was all about Batman and Robin. It was a faux news report about Poison Ivy and company doing bad business in Gotham City. I had more than enough of R. Smelly, Pumpkins, Moloko, Bone Thugs & Harmony, and all the others, as they played long snippets of songs from the soundtrack.

I never got into The Cure either, although I do like Disintegration Street.

"Fascination Street" is a song from the album Disintegration.

I haven't listened to "Gish", "Pisces Iscariot" or "Adore" enough to know, but the above albums, especially "Siamese Dream", I think should be owned by anyone who loves, noisy, alternative rock, not just fans of the Smashing Pumpkins.

I really disliked Billy's voice at first. But I think he sings more "normal" these days - and Gossamer is amazing 30 minutes long jam.

You might give them another try, Ernest. I hated The Beatles back in the day because of their popular songs..but when I heard Abbey Road for the first time, I was really surprised. I would recommend you Adore album - it's very different than any other Pumpkins album and you might like it nod

You really consder Siamese Dream and the music on that disc a mess or are you referring to live performances or what? That is blasphemy what you said right there lol

I never listened to Siamese Dream, that I know of. I'm going by what was on the radio or MTV etc. Whatever "love is a vampire" song is...it's annoying. The two songs from Batman and Robin are atrocious. The songs from Mellon Collie - yeeeesh.

Dude, I think you're refusing 1999 because you had to listen to Diamonds and Pearls. biggrin

Forget Mellon Collie if you have to, it doesn't matter. But Siamese Dream is too good to ignore. And Pisces Iscariot is a nice 2nd helping of that.

True. "Siamese Dream" is something like "Loveless vol.2", but it's more polished. You can really hear how Billy was influenced by My Bloody Valentine, but he took that idea even further. There's not one bad song on that album, it's amazing from start to finish. "Today" saved my life!

I totally agree with you, there is not a bad song on Siamese Dream. I have probably listened to this album in its entirety more than any other album, by any other artist. This is including my two favorites Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. It is definately Billy's masterpiece.

I've heard "Siamese Dream" for the first time when I was 13..now I'm 20 and I have listened to it probably 10000th
times in my life. Intro to "Soma" is the most beautiful guitar intro ever.

Damn, I love that album so much I have it even on MC! lol

Siamese is the proper album, Pisces is the B-Side project. Absolutely brilliant and amazing, both. Billy fell off artistically once he went solo. Ignore most of that stuff, it's not worth it. Those albums however PURE. MAGIC! touched

Siamese is their best album and likewise Pisces is great too. I was a fan since the first album and after Siamese Dream. Billy's voice changed somewhat, it became whiny and it put me off to a large degree. Bullet With Butterfly wings was a dreadful single and Mellon Collie is a hugely overrated album. There's some wonderful stuff on the second disc though.

Besides Siamese Dream Machina is worth listening to. It has some of the best melodies he's ever written and has fantastic production.

I'm not surprised his voice made you cringe. When i bought Mellon Collie i couldn't believe i was listening to the same band and singer who made the two previous albums. It's a horrible painful album to listen to. The rock songs are terrible bloated crap. Only in the quieter moments does that album work.

Machina II had some good stuff on it. I did actually really like that whole era and some of the bands most accessible materialcame out back then. Not that many heard it but for me along with the Siamese Dream era this was the pumpkins best.

1999? what? D&P was out in 1990. Mellon was released in 1995. My experience in hearing it was 1997.

He meant you are refusing "1999" (album) because you've heard Prince's worse album the first smile -> You're refusing Siamese Dream because you've heard Mellon Collie. Just like I refused The Beatles because of their old shitty hits and when I gave a chance to Revolver and Abbey Road, I was blown away how brilliant they are.

Liked a lot; I wouldn't say Love. There are some amazing songs, and I enjoy Billy doing electronica music (like Eye from Lost Highway Soundtrack)...but there are some trying songs on there keeping me from loving that album.

Eye is amazing, I have it on some three tracks long EP. It's interesting to hear different versions of some songs on Machina II.

so here's my opinion

Gish- Good Instrumental Album- Billy voice was okay despite the fact that it irk alot of people. personally, i feel the best song was Crush Or Siva. Worst Song Was Window Paine. Is it my favorite. Not Necessary but it reminds of one of there unique albums- i would put it on my Second place.

Pisces Iscariot-I love the b-sides better than Gish- So I like this one better than Gish

Siamese Dream- This is my 3rd favorite album by then- My bloody valentine influences and other shoe gazing influences ring high on this album--however my main complaints are the whiney lyrics that emerge from this album loved the art in this album thought. I think when thinking in Album Art, Siamese Dream is my favorite.

Melon Collide And Infinite Sadness- it was nice that Corgan let the whole band play in this but i rarely play this album

ADORE-My Favorite album by then. Mostly because not a lot of people like this album. I never get tired of playing this. I mostly like the Lyrics that Corgan writes in this album

Machina1/Machina 2- good good bye albums

here's my ranking

1.Adore
2. Siamese Dream
3. Pisces Iscariot
4. Gish
5. Machina
6.Mellon

Adore is a good album. I think Corgans lyrics and the bands sound over that and the Machina album was very rich and he wrote some great love songs. The only problem i have with Adore is that the sound just gets a little samey over the course of a whole listen. Invidivually the songs are very strong and IMO far better than anything on Mellon Collie or Gish. It's just as a whole i find Adore a little bit of chore to get through from start to finish.

I've never been able to get all the way through Adore - just way too many boring piano driven slow songs. I liked the singles and that new wavey sounding song with the pretty chorus. That's about it.
