Alicia Keys Plans "The Element of Freedom" Reissue

April 12, 2010

After closing out the North American leg of her “Freedom” tour over the weekend, Alicia Keys is already planning her next moves, which may include a re-release of her latest album.

“We have been having conversations and talks about that,” Keys exclusively told us when asked if a re-release of her fourth effort 'The Element of Freedom' was in the future. “That’s still a conversation at this point, but it’s looking like it will happen.”

The Grammy winner said she would like to “add some incredible new songs and collaborations onto the re-release,” one of those potentially being a remix to her new single “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready).”

Just last week, Keys revealed that she was delaying her “Put It in a Love Song” video with Beyoncé to release the Drake-assisted single. She is also set to film a video for the record this week in Los Angeles with director Jake Nava.

'The Element of Freedom' debuted at No. 2 when it was released in December and has since gone platinum in the United States.

Why didn't she just put those 'incredible new songs' on the first album cause I didn't hear any on the original issue. neutral

I HATE reissues. I don't think they should be allowed. It punishes those who bought the album upon its' release

I don't think it punishes the consumer.

To me, it's an insult to the original vision for the album. She's just wanting to reissue it because the first one is garbage.

Artists and labels are becoming all too comfortable with this practice.

Ouch!

I gonna agree with you there. The album is a lackluster affair with the exception of two songs whose titles escape me.

Well, you're not forced to buy it...personally, i really enjoy "The Element", it's still on heavy rotation on my ipod. Would like to see what she comes up with the reissue.

The two I liked were This Bed and Un-thinkable (I'm Ready). Other than that, it was pretty much snoozeville.

Same for me. It usually takes me a while to like her stuff, but I don't see myself liking this album any time soon (reissue or not).

She's completely off my radar now. I probably stuck around longer than I needed to.

I don't see why some people can't understand why she is doing this "reissue" thing....umm it's all about money, hello????? I didn't buy the original, nor will I buy this reissue garbage. She lost me after the "Diary" album.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

You were one of the lucky ones. lol

Actually, I only bought the first. The second one was a gift. The others I didn't bother with.

Not surprised she's doing a "reissue". How many copies is the original album selling anyway?

I didn't cared much for Element Of Freedom, and will not be getting any re-issue... I hate re-issues or DELUXE - or LIMITED editions of a album that's not even a year old! Ridiculous!

I've never fell in that TRAP... Lenny's last album had also a DELUXE edition with a 20 min. DVD confused THATS NO DELUXE EDITION!!!!

Re-issues encourage illegal downloading, ESPECIALLY reissues of recently released recordings. Street Songs? Cool, and a well deserved reissue. This album, and many others is just a waste of time, and not fair to those who already own it. the industry keeps on dropping the ball.

And how many editions did Beyonce make for I Am Sasha Fierce.

I think the final edition with all the extras tacked on was the one that should have been released in the first place AND I think it actually fit on one disc.

Yep. The deluxe had a short video documentary and the video for the lead single. I think it had another track or 2.

Yep, it was a Target exclusive and it has 2 bonus cuts, both boring ballads. I really like this CD overall though. Her music is good for what it is, she just tries to make it seem depper than it really is.

I think she tries to be "creative" also. I wish she would just concentrate on writing good music instead of trying to be different.

I think she's doing this because she kept tweeting on how so much good stuff was being recorded and she didn't meet the deadlines to put it on the original album...
