A Star Is Born Will Continue Production Without Beyonce On the black carpet at the LA premiere of Warner Bros Pictures’ Clash of the Titans, producer Basil Iwanyk confirmed things are moving forward on another remake of A Star is Born. The original 1937 film won a best original screenplay Oscar for writers William A. Wellman and Robert Carson. The 1954 incarnation with Judy Garland and James Mason also earned some love from the Academy, garnering six nominations including nods in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories. And the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson also found Oscar glory, picking upthe Best Original Song Academy Award and earning nominations in three other categories. This new A Star is Born has some big shoes to fill, to say the least.
Iwanyk revealed Warner Bros is moving ahead with A Star is Born and is in negotiations with Russell Crowe to take on a starring role. Iwanyk also confirmed Nick Cassavetes, director of The Notebook, will helm the project, and shooting will begin this fall. However, Iwanyk said it’ll be going into production without Beyonce in the lead, as had been rumored. ‘We wanted Beyonce, she wanted to do it, but it was hard to figure out her dates and her deal,’ Iwanyk said on the black carpet at the Clash of the Titans premiere. ‘She just came off of a huge world tour and Warners wants to have the movie for next summer, and so we just couldn’t work out.’ *** Now the mannequin's outta the way, who will play Vicki Lester? It gotta be somebody with pizazz

My God, enough of the remakes! I haven't seen a remake out of Hollywood in 40 years that was any good.

I was just thinking the same and they sure like to remake the hell outta "A Star is Born" for some reason. Russell Crowe though? I've lost the use of my heart, But I'm still alive, Still looking for the life, The endless pool on the other side, It's a wild wild west, I'm doing my best, I'm a soldier of love, Every day and night, I'm soldier of love, All the days of my life.

I know. Like, do they have to do remakes? There are so many original works that aren't being done at all and yet we keep getting remakes of remakes. [Edited 4/9/10 8:41am] Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I could totally see Russell Crowe as Norman Maine
The male role asks for a BLAND male character,,,,all the rest of the weight will be left on the Vicki Lester role, the actress who'll play her will have to deliver the meat & potato. If they made a BALL OF FIRE like James Mason play the "bland troubled" role, you know a natural "bland" like Russell won't pull any stretches on this one.

That's what I was going to say. I mean this movie has already had it's share of remakes already and they feel the need to do another one??? [Edited 4/9/10 9:38am] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Several years ago,it was reported that this would be a Will Smith/Beyonce movie.Somehow,I don't think that pairing would have worked, either.

Seriously, I don't get it He was flat in LA Confidential, he was flat in Beautiful Mind and he was flat in American Gangster. ALL great movies that didn't do squat for him. Ironically however, he did good in Gladiator(I think the only good performance I've seen from him), but I didn't care for the film itself.

Don't touch the classics? This film has been made four times already. Sorry, once you've been remade three times, it becomes a standard in my book. That's like moaning that someone is remaking Romeo & Juliet or the story of Jesus. Space for sale...

I don't care for movie remakes, but this is one of the FEW ones I don't mind getting the remake treatment as long as the production and performances compliment each other. I didn't know that it was remade 4 times though? Lets see; the Janet Gaynor version, the Judy Garland version and the Babs version. Whats the fourth?

(And now he's Robin Hood just like Costner in Prince of Thieves). He hasn't wowed me in anything. Putting on the weight hasn't made him anymore appealing either. LOL No, seriously though...I could have sworn there was a fourth version from the 80s/90s. Did the Bodyguard start out as a remake and morph into it's own thang? I'm gonna have to investigate some more. Space for sale...

Those hollywood producers are suckas for those walking corpses Kevin Costner, Keanu Reeves and now Mr.Crowe. Absloutly looooove their choice of movies,,,,,but they're like a premature ejaculation; you get hot & bothered only to end up feeling frustrated about the performance being below the bar(esp in a good setting). And I don't wanna hear the same ol' "they're subtle actors" bullshit argument either
