Talk about disrespected.....SHAME on the industry for neglecting this band's catalog during the digital era.
Fatback has a magnificent catalog that has NEVER seen any decent treatment (re-issues, remasters, etc.). Most of the original stuff is out of print even today. Maybe I'm just unaware of the reasons why, but these guys were HUGELY influential & seem to have been left back. Love Fatback...wish they got more credit for their HUGE career.....one of the greatest funk bands of all time. Funk Is It's Own Reward

Well looks like a ton of their stuff is still available, but no special re-issues or anything like that. Gotta love their album covers too. Hot Box is a must-have. I personally like "Brite Lights, Big City". "Freak The Funk" isn't even heard on XM Sirius. "Is This The Future" is funky no doubt, but teetering on "novelty", with the news announcer and all.
Good topic!!! Katie Kinisky: "So What Are The Latest Dances, Nell?"
Nell Carter: "Anything The Black Folks did Last Year"

Good topic!!! I like this song. Backstrokin is my favorite by them. I dig the synths on Is This the Future. The message holds true today especially during the Bush Administration. Yeah i said it. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Actually, all of their earlier material on Perception has been reissued on both vinyl and CD about ten years ago ... http://www.dustygroove.co...o.x=&go.y=

"Backstrokin'" is another favorite of mine. My favorite is the long farting sound at the beginning and at the breakdown. Andy is a four letter word.

I love the part when the guy goes, "Hey brotha can you spare a dime, I don't wanna end up doin' time.." I always wondered what his backstory was regarding that dime. Did he need to make an important call to his parole officer? Katie Kinisky: "So What Are The Latest Dances, Nell?"

I can't believe that I don't have any of their albums I only have a 'Best Of' CD,plus a few of their singles on compilations.
Besides 'Hot Box' (which I intend to get first),what other albums should I look for? What are their best albums?

not really.. I must have picked up at least ten Fatback CDs over the years, far more than I own original vinyl albums, so many WERE available at some point . [Edited 4/15/10 4:44am] Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!
