I didn't know that it was remade 4 times though? Lets see; the Janet Gaynor version, the Judy Garland version and the Babs version. Whats the fourth? Star tansaeng (1960) in Korea? LOL No, seriously though...I could have sworn there was a fourth version from the 80s/90s. Did the Bodyguard start out as a remake and morph into it's own thang? I'm gonna have to investigate some more. You could call it a branch from the old tree but no. Ryan O'Neal was trying to get one of those big time studio to film it, he was supposed to be the bodyguard while his then-girlfriend Ms.Diana Ross was supposed to be "Rachel".

How about scrapping it altogether? "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Best idea yet. I have a problem with people making remakes in eras where they wouldn't work Same thing with those rumors of a remake of The Wiz. Just stop "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Those hollywood producers are suckas for those walking corpses Kevin Costner, Keanu Reeves and now Mr.Crowe. Absloutly looooove their choice of movies,,,,,but they're like a premature ejaculation; you get hot & bothered only to end up feeling frustrated about the performance being below the bar(esp in a good setting). And I don't wanna hear the same ol' "they're subtle actors" bullshit argument either that's cold. Is that what they're calling it; Ben Kingslye and the late Jean Simmons are and were respectively subtle actors.

Yep,'The Bodyguard' is a movie idea from the late 70s.Ryan O' Neal and Diana Ross were gonna star in it.I wonder how it would have turned out? I can certainly see Diana in that role, playing the bitchy,self-centered singer whose life is in danger it's amazing that the script survived all those years, and the film finally got made in 1992.

^^^In my research on this thread, IMDB noted that they actually were a month into working on the film till they broke up and Ross exited and the film fell apart.
Ms. Ross aint fooling around when it comes to dating white men, is she? What the heck did Berry Gordy do to her to turn her away? Space for sale...

I guess nobody remembers the infamous comment made by Ryan O'Neal about Mr.Ross. pullling out of the movie "She doesn't want to do nude scenes, she doesn't want to do love scenes, she doesn't want to be black." A couple years after the fact he said, Ms. Ross had all type of stipulations of what she would do and wouldn't, what could be, and couldn't be in the film. O'Neal told Diana her damands were unrealistic and asked her what was she afraid of. She told him, she was afraid of herself.

I do remember it, but I also know that it was "rejection" talking because he got dumbed on both accounts, a movie role and as a boyfriend. Beside, that quote shows how much of a racist Ryan is. So, fuckin' in a movie with your titties hanging out equates to being "black"? Talk about showing your ugly ass here.... Anyway Ryan O'Neal is a BIG douche bag who thought he could bank on Diane's "bitchy" reputation by making that quote that deserves a big dose of "no shit".

Yes it was, by O'Neals own account he knows he's an asshole. I think at the time the remark was kinda knee jerk. I agree with you, he thought could take the shot because it was "Ross". Hence, the more calmer explanation of what went down about 2 or 3 years later.
