What is the real birthplace of The Funk?

country.....Nashville, TN
blues....Memphis, TN & Jackson, MS
jazz....New Orleans, LA
rock....Macon, GA
hip-hop....New York, NY
funk....?????

Right THERE^, we have an old problem that has never been solved for decades. The Funk is THE only American music genre that never had its birthplace mention. Does anyone in the org knows where The Funk was invented?

I do not know the real birthplace of the funk. But the genre known as P-funk was supposedly "born" in Plainfield, New Jersey, hence the name. P-funk was also originally used to describe the groups and musicians surrounding George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic. But Plainfield was the hometown of the original Parliament/Funkadelic line up. As far as funk that came b4 the 70's, i have no idea.

Funk never had a birthplace. hmmm

James Brown created most of his funk hits in the South. The Ohio-based groups like P-Funk, Ohio Players and etc. recorded in Detroit, other Ohio groups like Lakeside recorded in L.A. while Slave was New York/New Jersey.

The Meters were from New Orleans and they were definitely "funky".

The Isley Brothers created most of their music in New York though they were based in New Jersey and originally brought up in Ohio.

So far, I think most of us agree that it's a coin toss between Augusta, GA & Cleveland, OH.

If thats the case, then I guess its safe to say that funk(like the rest of musical expression created by black people) came from THE SOUTH.

The twisted irony is that hip-hop (NYC, NY), house (Chicago, IL) & techno (Detroit) were all from the north. Yes, them Yankees were using synths, samplers, & drum machines to invent those American genres!

Just saying.

oh well, in the south aunt's were often times considered as mothers (extended family concept). and once in a while on a good day, no matter how poor a plate of three foods was served.
