ORG MIXTAPE PROJECT: Timmy84: A Brokenhearted Boy's Story See link: http://8tracks.com/timmy8...oy-s-story Introduction: This is not related to me personally but it could relate to anyone going through heartbreak or pain of any sort. If you're too optimistic, this mix may not be for you but I feel it was granted. Songs: Ike & Tina Turner - A Fool in Love This song probably doesn't need an introduction. It's clear from Tina's opening wails that this song is all about torment of being in love or a fool thinking she's in love. Written by Ike with a male singer originally in mind, the young Anna Mae Bullock sealed her fate and destiny with this song, which went from demo to a release after Ike loved what he heard, therefore changing her name to the one she's still known as 50 years later. This song is perfect for the confusion that surrounds a relationship not just for girls but for boys too. Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You) This song, which became Ms. Franklin's breakthrough hit in 1967, details a broken relationship where the protagonist is beyond fed up with her lover's disrespect of her and even tells the man that she could leave the person in a minute but instead of leaving, she stays and tells him that she loves him and knows no matter what that she'll remain a fool to him. It personally breaks my heart whenever someone just stays "for the ride" rather than find somebody new. Shuggie Otis - Strawberry Letter 23 The original version of what later became a hit for the Brothers Johnson, this song explains a person who feels determined to see his lover after getting a letter that smelt a scent of strawberries despite a heart-broken ache in the first half of the song, the song goes adrift and dreamy-like (psychedelic) as he wanders off to his lover but the song could just be a dream for a brokenhearted boy. Sly Stone - Time The song is a depressive piece recorded during a turbulent time in Sly Stone's life at that particular point, it could also be a personal song for those feeling as if their life doesn't really mean anything even when someone tries to give advice, the boy refuses to listen, often believing that time wouldn't help him none. Marvin Gaye - I Wish I Didn't Love You So Had to include a song from my favorite artist of all time, the song is very self-explanatory really. A man thinks he can escape the love he feels for his former love but finds himself struggling to come to terms with the demise of their relationship. His heart bleeds out for an affection that never comes to him and he drifts into loneliness and sadness as he tries to understand why he shouldn't love so much but does. Billie Holiday - Lover Man A live version of one of my favorite Lady Day songs, the song is another brokenhearted lullaby with dreams of an everlasting love with a special someone that never comes. Sometimes brokenhearted boys dream of that lover man or lover woman and never quite getting what they want, often lying on their beds crying and wondering why they don't have that special someone. Lorraine Ellison - Stay With Me "I know a man ain't supposed to cry but these tears I can't hold inside..." I don't think even the strongest of men can not cry when they hear this aching vocal from Lorraine Ellison as she pleads for her lover to stay with her. Men also plead with their lover to not leave them trying in vain to get them in stay though it seems in vain and they know that the person is quite fed up with the man so they leave knowing that despite the hurt that person will feel, sometimes it takes a broken heart to let them know how a broken heart feels. The Jackson 5 - Who's Loving You This is the aftermath of "Stay With Me", as the brokenhearted boy begins to wonder who is his lover loving nowadays. As he wonders, you can feel the tension building up in the 10-year-old Michael's soulful screams and pleads. It's a natural occurrence that brokenhearted boys never quite heal from the loss of love and therefore the dream of love is somewhat deferred. This definitely reaches to my soul every time I hear it. ---- OK, that's it, hope u like it. [Edited 3/23/10 19:46pm] To prove I'm not trying to steal anyone's thunder, keep this on the main board until next Monday. Sorry for being so quick. To be honest I was kinda seeing the mixtapes and thought that all of them were posted at the same time. That's why when you gave me the orgNOTE, it was like "hmm, well if that's how it is no prob". But somehow the mod still stickied it. | |
