The best album intros? List them!
For starters, I love this intro from Lykke Li's Youth Novels album

Station to Station-David Bowie is one I can think of off the top of my head. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

the albums i tend to like most are the ones that have an overall feel
or theme. in particular the ones that break away from what the artist usually does. for instance U2's "achtung baby". the way the first song starts out, the distorted guitar and drums, the metallic clangs. you're only 30 seconds in but you already know that this album will be completely different from what you've heard of U2 before and it serves as a micro picture of what the whole album will be like. another example is bjork's "vespertine" where "hidden place" has all the elements that will return on the rest of the album: deep brooding, organic beats, angelical whispering backing choirs, soft electronic glitches and a sense of cocooning warmth and earthly sensuality. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

one of the best opening tracks ever, imo. sets the perfect tone for a complete album full of otherworldly soundscapes and claustrophobic yearning. brilliant. absolutely ace. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
