LOVE any and all Dusty from 1963-1970. In addition to the excellent tracks theAudience posted, I have to show my love for these early hits:
I Only Want To Be With You Stay Awhile And HIGHLY underrated is her 1970 A Brand New Me/From Dusty With Love album produced by Gamble & Huff: Brand New Me . [Edited 3/25/10 8:48am]

Am interested to hear more about the notion of her being underrated. Here in the UK, at least, my parents' generation, who grew up in her heyday, seem to remember her very affectionately as someone who was popular then, and was also head-and-shoulders above most of the other homegrown acts of the time. And even for my generation and younger people, I think she's still highly rated amongst people that love music. (I mean, if you think of yourself as a bit of a 'muso' type and you don't spend at least one evening per quarter drifting away to Dusty in Memphis, you're just not doing it right!)
Is it that she never quite got her due on the other side of the Atlantic? Btw, this one's probably my favourite song of hers. Just stunningly beautiful - it melts you. "Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Baldwin

Is it that she never quite got her due on the other side of the Atlantic? She definitely deserved more than just three top 10 singles in the states (not counting the PSB duet).

She's heavily admired in the UK but she was indeed underrated in the U.S. though she did have a good collection of hits and she IS in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

In 1999 and Elton John inducted her...

Yeah unfortunately. She died on March 2, 1999. She was inducted ten days later.

Love it. Love the whole album. I think 'Breakfast In Bed' is my fave on the album. Yeah, it's a great album. It's strange: I heard it years ago and couldn't get into it; I think perhaps I'd expected it to have more of a classic 'Stax' type of sound. Then, a friend of mine kept playing some tracks from it, including the one above, so I went back to it and was blown away. That sort of production could so easily sound schmaltzy, but it's all done so sensitively and soulfully that it just works. Like many people, Dusty In Memphis this was the first Dusty album I heard and it's deserving of all the critical praise. I will say though her followup album in 1970 that I posted earlier is nearly just as good: A Brand New Me (U.S.) / From Dusty With Love (U.K.)

The alternate title could have been Dusty in Philly because of its early Philly Soul style by producers Gamble & Huff that became popular later in the 70s.
