Experience Hendrix Tour - Los Angeles (3/5/10) A friend offered me tickets to this show but I suggested he give them to someone else as I had won a pair from one of the local radio stations. Sort of regretted this after I picked them up and discovered they weren't that great. But luck was with me. While waiting to pick up some after show passes that had been left for me, I ran into Marcus Miller. During our conversation one of his associates (a very kind and musically knowledgeable gentleman) heard my plight and gave me a very plush orchestra seat. Here's how the show ran from top to bottom. Ernie Isley (w/Billy Cox & Chris Layton): Message To Love Manic Depression Living Colour: Power Of Soul Crosstown Traffic Doyle Bramhall II: Hear My Train A Comin' Who Knows (w/David Hidalgo) Eric Johnson: House Burning Down Axis Bold As Love Are You Experienced Jonny Lang (w/Brad Whitford): Fire Wind Cries Mary Spanish Castle Magic Kenny Wayne Shepard (w/Noah Hunt on vocals): I Don't Live Today Come On Voodoo Chile/Voodoo Child (slight return) David Hidalgo & Cesar Rosas: Can You See Me Little Wing Killing Floor (w/Hubert Sumlin) Them Changes (w/Corey Glover) Joe Satriani (w/Living Colour): Third Stone from the Sun (without Vernon Reid) Foxey Lady All Along The Watchtower Joe Satriani/Billy Cox/Brad Whitford/Will Calhoun/Chris Layton: Red House (Billy Cox vocals) Best overall performance Kenny Wayne Shepard This may be due to the fact that his rhythm section backed many of the acts so he had the luxury of performing with his normal unit. Was never a fan but i've gotta give him props on his performance. Best Guitar Tone Joe Satriani I'm not sure why this was but most of the guitarists sounded as if they were playing through digital amp-emulators as opposed to a straight guitar/amp rig. This wasn't the case during Satriani's performance. Best Individual Interpretation Eric Johnson I've never heard anyone capture certain Hendrix sounds as accurately as Eric Johnson. His ability to play the backwards guitar parts of Are You Experienced forwards is pretty unbelievable. He also added some very creative chord ideas to the end of the tune. Is there a whole tour schedule?
I saw this show about a year and a half ago, and would love to see it again. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Putting the set list together I would've opted 4 more "album cut" songs like...
In From The Storm Ezy Ryder Machine Gun Izabella Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice Highway Chile If 6 Was 9 Burning Of The Midnight Lamp Like A Rolling Stone

Man, I can't wait...I am going Thursday night in San Francisco at the Warfield (and then going to see Smokey Robinson on Saturday at the Warfield also)...my seats are really good - the joint only holds 2,000 folks so nothing is truly bad there. I cannot express how excited I am to see ERNIE ISLEY playing Hendrix - well he could be playing "row row row your boat" and I'd be excited.. I have never seen Ernie Isley before in life. Robert Randolph is playing up here too, who I've heard nothing but great shit about so I'm looking forward to checking him out. AND I've never seen Satriani play either - so that's gonna be the shit. THEN I go back to almost the SAME EXACT SEAT on Saturday night for Smokey Robinson. Life is good!!

it's to bad Buddy Guy is not playing it this year. The two times I have attended this tour in years past, Buddy stole the show. I just got my ticket for Smokey at the Warfield in the mail today.

Was never a fan but i've gotta give him props on his performance. He's a really good guitar player, but he just never seems like he's adding anything of his own. I know Stevie Ray was heavily influenced by other players, but Kenny just sounds like Stevie Ray alone, instead of channeling Jimi, like Eric & Joe are able to do. Of course being able to pull that off is something thousands of amateurs aspire to, and it take skill. I just can't get that excited about it. [Edited 3/18/10 17:21pm] My Legacy

My friend saw this in NYC when Mitch Mitchell was still alive.
He said he played horribly and looked very unhealthy, but still cool to see an original Experience member onstage. My Legacy

He said he played horribly and looked very unhealthy, but still cool to see an original Experience member onstage. I saw that show. He was very frail. There was another drummer, and my friend pointed out that Mitch Mitchell was just going thru the motions. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing.
