Moonbeam, it's done. As the late Michael Jackson would say, This Is It, this is the last go round! I've done all that I could do within a 4+ hours time limit to typing down 100 80's songs of my choice. My only regrets are the songs that did NOT make the cut.
1. No rap songs at all. New Wave songs are almost non-existence. WTF was I thinking after the fact? 2. No slow jams at all. This is all dance stuff, with some funk and a few rock songs that are "danceable". 3. Not one track from Tiffany made the final cut. But yet, I had to add one freaking Whitney Houston track in the name of political correctness. Ain't that a total bitch! 4. And yes, The 80's Triad (Michael/Prince/Madonna) are definitely on this list. How do you think I've gotten problem #1 & #3 in the first place?!? Here is THE list in the order that I wanted: Michael Jackson -- Billie Jean Prince -- 1999 Madonna -- Like A Prayer Janet Jackson -- Rhythm Nation George Clinton -- Atomic Dog Hebbie Hancock -- Rockit Kool & The Gang -- Celebration Daryl Hall & John Oates -- Private Eyes The Human League -- Don't You Want Me George Michael -- I Want Your Sex Prince & The Revolution -- Let's Go Crazy Michael Jackson -- Beat It Madonna -- Get Into The Groove Janet Jackson -- When I Think Of You Rick James -- Superfreak David Bowie -- Lets Dance Duran Duran -- The Reflex Guns-N-Roses -- Paradise City [Album Version} Cameo -- Word Up! I've seen snails quicker than you You a one minute man? I am doing a SINGLES list now. I am in 1984. And I picked Tricky over Jungle Love. Also, only on 1984 (not even halfway) and I already got 220 picks. Right now I suppose Eurythmics got the most in. >>

Has anyone notice how difficult it really is to pick the best songs for the 1980's where there are TOO MANY great tracks?

Yes. I am just weeding out the 80's albums in my collection. Just compiling 1980/1986 (well, part of 1986) gives me 303 songs. First half of the decade was ruled by Eurythmics, second half is going to be Prince, with or without The Revolution. I am highlighting my favest tracks, though. After this is done, I need to check the Acclaimed Music site list for oversights. Dayummmm... >>

Yup... i ended up with over 700 possibilities, narrowed it down to about 380 of top favorites, used that as a basic template... then when finished, just lopped off the bottom 180 and posted the top 200. i guess i could post 201 thru 380 as bubbling under when i get home from work. may as well. edit: here they are, the "bubbling under" list 201. It's a nightmare of a task. I built my own computer program to help me sort out all of my lists. I had over 1,000 80s songs to weight through (and even then those are the ones I really, really love!) and I still second-guess myself all the time. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Yup... i ended up with over 700 possibilities, narrowed it down to about 380 of top favorites, used that as a basic template... then when finished, just lopped off the bottom 180 and posted the top 200. i guess i could post 201 thru 380 as bubbling under when i get home from work. may as well. edit: here they are, the "bubbling under" list 201. Dayummmm... That is how I feel about Kool & The Gang AND Culture Club. The first half of the 80's would have never been the same with those bands.

It's a nightmare of a task. I built my own computer program to help me sort out all of my lists. I had over 1,000 80s songs to weight through (and even then those are the ones I really, really love!) and I still second-guess myself all the time. I'm second-guessing #80-#100 on my own list. NO Talking Heads, NO Pat Benatar, but yet I remember Whitney freaking Houston. My credibility is getting damage right now.
