Yep...The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon are undeniable classics. Still, Pink Floyd isn't everyone's cup of tea... My son loves Led Zeppelin but can't get into Pink Floyd...

I always felt sorry for The Floyd.....they were a band chasing a "ghost"..and in retrospect...I don't think the "ghost" was worth it (Sid).
That said, Dark Side esp.....is a masterpiece....and would NOT have happened without David. Less him, they would have been utterly forgotten in the dustbin, IMHO. Funk Is It's Own Reward

I READ ON WIKI THAT SYDS MENTAL ILLNESS WAS DEEMED UNCURABLE BY A PSYCHIATRIST. POOR GUY Atom Heart Mother

yes...and he showed up at the sessions for "Wish You Were Here".
Sadly, and pointedly, they barely recognized him. As I said, the Syd thang is a very emotionally reflective thing. I give props to the boys for being dedicated to their muse.....but also props to the talent that kept them with us till now. Funk Is It's Own Reward

I think there would have been no Floyd without Syd, OR David OR Roger.
Syd was the one that was brilliant at the youngest age. The songwriting and arrangements on Piper are so unique, yet they fit right in with the "swinging London" thing, so they got hit singles and a big name right out of the gate, and became the first famous psychedelic band. But once he lost it around 1968, Dave and Roger had to pick it up, and turned the band into something very different. And it took the both of them to make that happen. Without such a fluid, lyrical guitar player, those long songs would have been terribly dull. And you have to credit to Nick Mason and Rick Wright too for being able to play spare, textural parts that knitted the whole thing together. If they'd had a showoff keyboard player like Rick Wakeman playing fast runs it would have sounded very different, It seemed like a good creative collaboration up till the time they did The Wall, when Waters basically took over. Gilmour's input is limited to a couple of vocals and guitar solos. While that album's great, it's also the end of the line. Neither one was ever as good after that. Waters was writing for studio musicians with no personality. Gilmour had the other guys with him but just couldn't raise the standard of the writing high enough.

I've never been keen on buying or exploring Floyd's works; however, I do like "Not Now John" on The Final Cut.

Yup, huge Pink Floyd fan. Love DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. I think Animals may be my favorite of the 3.
The Wall has some brilliant material on it, but it's just too much, IMHO. It drags. I made my own single-disc version of it that I much prefer. * * *

Big Floyd fan. Had tix to see them in 95, but couldn't go at the last minute (of course, in 95, Roger was long long gone, and "group" was still being held together by David). I've 8 or 9 of their albums. Love Animals and The Wall.

I'm not a huge fan of Floyd, but grew up listening to their music as it was around and being played. I dig DSOTM the most, and The Wall. I also like other cuts from some of the earlier albums.

Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall are what I would class as bona fide classics.
I also enjoy Animals and Wish You Were Here, but the two above are their high water mark, for me. And Gilmour is such a master of feel when it comes to guitar. In some ways, he has quite a processed sound, but with a soulfulness to it that is lacking in most FX heavy guitar players. This is not an exit
