Rolling Stones Live On HBO - Who's Gonna Watch? Me, Me, Me!!! I can't wait 4 tomorrow nite!!!
Read this: Rolling Stones to Throw Live TV 'Garden' Party By Christian Wiessner NEW YORK (Reuters) - Rock's elder statesmen, The Rolling Stones, will perform live on cable television for the first time on Saturday. Their sold-out show from New York's Madison Square Garden airs on HBO at 9 p.m. EST. The group that likes to call itself "the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world" has taped performances on previous tours that eventually made it to television, and several shows through the years were filmed for theatrical release. But the HBO show is being billed as the Stones' first "live" concert to air on cable or broadcast TV. HBO is a unit of AOL Time Warner Inc. "The Rolling Stones are truly the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band, and we're delighted that they've chosen HBO for this live TV concert event, the first for broadcast or cable in their remarkable history," said Nancy Geller, senior vice president, HBO Original Programming. A network spokeswoman declined to speculate on what kind of ratings the Stones might attract but said approximately one-third of American households subscribe to HBO. Lead singer Mick Jagger (news), guitarists Keith Richards (news) and Ronnie Wood (news) and drummer Charlie Watts (news) kicked off the group's "Licks World Tour 2002/2003" in September. Despite denials from the band last May that this would be a "40th Anniversary" tour, the group nonetheless released "Forty Licks," a two-CD collection of four new songs and 36 classic hits like "Brown Sugar," "Jumping Jack Flash," and "Start Me Up," in October. At last night's Garden show, Jagger said HBO cameramen and technicians were doing a dry run for Saturday and that the equipment was "not for a home video." "We've played here many, many times, but it always feels fantastic," Jagger told the packed house. Following Saturday's show, the Stones will play another nine U.S. dates before beginning a two-month swing through Australia and Asia on February 18 in Sydney. A summer tour through Europe is scheduled to start on June 4 in Munich. According to data collated by concert trade publication Pollstar, the Rolling Stones were the No. 2 earners on the North American concert circuit in 2002, taking in $87.9 million over just 34 shows. The Stones' 1994 Voodoo Lounge tour remains the highest grossing North American tour at $121 million. --- Who got HBO just 4 this event??? |

I don't think this is true..their 1981 Hampton concert from the Tattoo You tour was on ON-TV and broadcast on radio as well. Anyone remeber ON TV, one of the first cable channels? hehe "Climb in my fur."

I've tried to like the Stones, honestly I have.. I bought 40 Licks and liked about a dozen of their songs... However, there's just something about the group that I can't quite appreciate...
Someone help me become a Stones fan. I'll probably end up buying Some Girls before the year's out.. Maybe this will actually make me "see the light" or whatever BTW, I actually like "State of Shock" w/Jacko and Mick... I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

I can also understand your comment, to me they lack something that makes them truly special. I think musically they're a little one note sounding and undynamic. when it works though its superb. Im playing Crazy Mama right now and damn that song is the bomb.

btw MR WATTS got some class along with some skills!!! Mr. Watts is THE class act of the Rolling Stones. Anmd yeah his skills are teriffic and under appreciated by the fans, but he does the drumming just as good as any drummer out there without having to do the rock drummer pose...his look is "effortless" as it sometimes should be. The Stones fuckin ROCK!
I enjoyed the hell out of the show on Saturday night. It actually got me to stop watching the Blackhawks v the Blues (which I am glad since the Blues ended up dominating in the 3rd...obvious Chicago fan here). Highlights: Can't You Hear me Knocking Midnight Rambler!!! Monkey Man (gave me new appreciation for this song) Gimme Shelter (that chick gave Mick a run for his money...great pipes...perfect for that song) Sympathy for the Devil Brown Sugar Angie (fucking LOVE this song!) Like how they went on the smaller stage at the other end of the Garden. Very cool. I wish to hell I was going to the show at United Center. They are playing better than they have in 20 years. Keith is just bad ass.

Their falsies didn't come out did they? Did they break any of their hips? See any Viagra bottles lying around? This is too easy. Like shooting fish in a barrel. I hope they Thank god for their songs from the 60's and 70's, or else they would be finished. That's the last time they did anything worthwhile. Talk about a frickin' dry spell. They are like Mccartney. Still living off old glory. It's pretty sad.
