Old School R&B Song Of The Day (1/28/03)...Kool And The Gang-Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It} Around this time, a lot of Kool And The Gang fans were complaining and bellyaching about how they were watering down their sound{that hard funk assault they had in the early 70's had disappeared for a more dance pop oriented sound} However they were selling alot of records around this time. This one is from their 1981 album Something Special which was a pretty good record. This one was one of my favorites songs off of that album. JT Taylor is in excellent form on this piece which did very well on the R&B charts. I like this ending of this song
"HOOO. HOOO HOOO...like Marvin huh"... Enjoy BRO915

I love Kool and The Gang's music in the 80s,even though some people felt that it was "watered down" or "too pop".The song "Take My Heart" sure sounds soulful to me.It's a mesmerizing groove with (like you say) a wonderful lead vocal from James "JT" Taylor.
The band's 1983 hit "Joanna" followed the same path. It's another gem from their 80s heyday.

"just like marvin huh... ooo... hooo hooo"... great pick there...alltho.. i must admit... i do follow the concensus on this one... it was a little pop'ish... but take my heart is the standout there

Get down on it and Steppin Out were nice cuts on this lp as well. It wasn't until "Joanna" and "Mislead" that I thought Kool and The Gang went over the edge pop music wise. Only song I liked from them after 83 was Fresh (remix) JT did have a nice solo album out around 91 however. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

Also, the closing ballad "No Show" is a great song as well.I remember they had a video for that one, even though it (surprisingly) never became a single.
