Imagewise? She's biting Bjork a lil too close for me (unless she starts giving her props).

Musically? My lord, I just listened to an EP of hers my cousin was blasting and her music is club bathroom/bar break music IMHO...so, I'd rate her a Kyle/Madonna knock off...no where near their level.

On a Cyndi note. Who knew that her last album was a platinum selling global hit? Peeps best be giving her props. She is going much stronger than most artist out there today.

...and this is one of the major problems with today's music climate These artist aren't given time to "mold" their images and careers so they end up coming off one note and boring the public to death. Shoot, Cyndi was in her early thirties when she made it big and had already gone through the motions so that she was musically and culturally ready to withhold a career and heck, even she crashed and burned after a decade.

Today's artists are being set up to fail and none of them, in their own greed, seem to care,

I can't believe on a Prince site so many folks are so seemingly oblivious to the obvious.
Like Prince and 'Purple Rain', the general public who don't really give a fig about Cyndi recognise 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' as her main hit or the song she's most identified with. That's all Seeingvoices meant i'm sure.

Well, Thanks....

You Just can't have an opinion on here, and I'm Seriously thinking of leaving the board nod, unless the mods do something regarding the personal insults...Not only now but on previous threads and constantly....

Obviously I made a crime when I said " Cyndi " is a one hit-wonder rolleyes ,they take things so fucking seriously , this is a message Board ,created to share opinions , if someone doesn't agree with me on something then they can politely convince me with their point of view , and I will be more than welcome to accept it, Its getting Ridiculous and Out of control on here , they just cannot get their point across without calling you names and throw insults.

pat

The Org isn't so unforgiving...you just have to phrase your words with greater care.

Maybe if you had said, "In my opinion, Cyndi is nowhere near as relevant as Madonna" as opposed to saying she's a "one hit wonder" (which in all seriousness she's NOT - google the term if you want) then the argument could have been to counter your opinion as opposed to proving how wrong you are. DaPrettyman already noted that you posted an 'untruth' as opposed to an opinion. There IS a difference.

You just kinda opened yourself up to a bashing, that's all.

But don't give up on the Org. We can play nice. innocent

Boy George recently posted on Twitter, a picture he took of Madonna, backstage in the mid-1980s.

It's very easy to forget just how much Madonna "adopted" Lauper's style as her own.

dale bozzio and cher need to whup on her a lil bit.

I would love it if her success leads people to discover Missing Persons. They had some absolutely killer tunes that still sound great to this day. Surrender Your Heart is my personal fave, along with Give, Destination Unknown, etc..

Everyone of my generation knows Cyndi Lauper here in germany. She was big in europe. And her hits are still being played on german radio stations.

You don't know what you're talking about.

I am from Greece and Cyndi Lauper is widely known. You say she is one-hit wonder outside the states... bullsh*t, 10 Australian Top 40 hits including
6 Top 10s, 6 French hits 5 of which went Top 10 and 11 UK Top 40 hits including 4 Top 10s. That looks to me more than 1 hit-wonder. As for classic songs it isn't just 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun'. 'Time After Time' has been covered by 120 artists including Tracy Chapman and Boyz II Men. The song re-entered the UK Top 40 another 3 times as a cover version by the Changing Faces (1998), Distant Soundz (2002) and Novaspace (2003). 'All Through The Night' has been covered by Tori Amos and Nana Mouskouri among others. 'True Colors' has been covered by over 100 acts including Aztec Camera, Eva Cassidy and Phil Collins who took the song back to the UK Top 40 in 1998. Arguably 'She Bop' is as famous as the above. So clearly Cyndi Lauper is much more than a 1-hit wonder

As for Lady Gaga, it is just too early to tell. I do like her (especially her live performances) and I do get the feeling she would like to do more musically interesting stuff that she is currently doing. So I could easily see her going Pink's way (which is to me by far the best of the female singers to make it big in the '00s along with Christina Aguilera). She hasn't got a song with the impact of 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' or 'Time After Time' yet so I cannot compare her with Cyndi Lauper and it is way too early to tell if she will exhibit the diversity and ambition of Madonna.

And Madonna is not a negative influence at all. In fact she is a much better influence than most other female divas of similar lever of success to come out in the 80s or the 90s but that's another discussion:P
