Is this still the case as far as influences go with this album? Would you say that these are probably the albums we should be studying now in order to "understand" D's new album.

And what I wanted to say is : you should not have to study anything in order to understand his next project. You can listen to those albums if you feel like but it's going to make D'angelo next CD better or worse IMO
