Do you buy CD's?

I don't buy CD's anymore. All downloads. My favorite stores to download from are Amazon and emusic.

I have been buying more vinyl lately, but yes I do buy CD's still. The only time I will download something is if that is the only way it is available.

I'm more of a vinyl buyer. But I usually buy CDs just to support my favorite artists.

I never ONLY download something. I want the physical copy. I will always buy CDs, and I still buy vinyl as well. There's still a rush and a level of excitement about unwrapping a CD, pulling off the security sticker on top, opening the case and smelling the paper and ink inside, then popping the CD out and carefully putting it in the CD tray, hitting PLAY and enjoying the fruits of their efforts.

As long as people are financially supporting the artists they love and listen to, then I don't care how people buy their music.

the only time i will download is if its leaked on the net and its an artist i will buy anyway on cd, i get the leak just to have an advance and then still buy the cd, because i want the book and the artwork and the LABOR that the artist put in

I can relate to the need for the physical object as opposed to a bunch of digits in your Ipod lol

Probably the single most important reason why I buy CDs(esp older ones) is because of the linder notes,,,,and I'm such a geek when it comes to them.

I buy cd's & download & burn copies of friends, but the cd's I purchase are the ones I tend to value the most & listen to the most. Even if I make an exact copy of someones cd it's not the same.

All the free music I got from Napster hardly ever gets played.

I think there is a correlation between buying music and its value to us. We have always been able to listen for free on the radio or to tape friends records, but when you go out of your way to buy a physical copy of something, unwrap it, and put it in the player it's a bigger commitment.

I believe that is part of why in this day of free downloads all the music around us seems to be horrible.

People don't value music, so music has no value.

I only buy cds if I cannot find the mp3 of a song. I usually only buy Donna Summer cds, cd singles, cd maxis, etc. I also buy her mp3s if, for some reason, what I'm looking for is not available on cd. Everyone else, I buy mp3s. It's much cheaper to buy mp3 as opposed to cds. Especially when I tend to only like a song or two on a cd. I have over 900 cds as a result of buying cds for a few songs that I liked. But, of course, most of the cds I have were purchased before the era of the mp3 (smile). I also buy vinyl, but only if I cannot find it on a cd or mp3 format. The quality of vinyl is not that good unless you have something to spice it up a bit, which I do not. An mp3 sounds great and, again, it's cheaper.

I still buy CDs and vinyl too.I don't like the idea of downloading music on a computer.I need to have the physical copy in my hands, with the liner notes and everything.

I'm not into buying CD's anymore because all I would do is rip 'em to my computer and then put 'em in storage. I have thousands of CD's that take up way too much room in my house as it is. I buy 100% of all of my downloads and I buy a lot of music. I listen to all of my music via computer or ipod.

I definitely still buy CDs. The only time I ever download something is if it is out of print.

I will also download something I might have only on vinyl, and not on CD. If I own that copy, I don't feel bad about downloading a digital copy for myself.

I also don't have much conscience about downloading stuff out of print. The artist isn't going to get paid whether I get it online for free, or at a used shop; it's a decision, at that point, whether I want a hard copy or not.

I have about 300 albums right now. I'm not sure how many of those I have digitally. I should update my LP list someday w/ that information.

My son downloads; I still buy CDs--downloaded one album in MP3 format and then couldn't play the burned copy on my stereo CD player...so I'm back to buying CDs! I'm probably doing something wrong...what is it?! Don't have a clue! lol

Get 'em while you still can. In case you haven't noticed Tower and Virgin Megastores are gone and the CD section at the big multi entertainment stores like Borders, Hastings, Best Buy etc. have shrunk to about a fifth the size they were just 6 months ago.

Sign o' the times.

I for one am sick about it. I have racks and racks of them taking up all the extra wall space in my house.

It's not that I need to have the artwork and liner notes although I do like that, it's that I choose what to play by feeling a mood, walking to the section that contains the genre that matches the mood and then scanning through the titles until I come to one that hits me in the moment as being the right choice and then that's it.

I never know before the moment strikes what I'm going to choose and that's the magic of having the physical CDs for me.

Having a menu of titles in my computer does not work on the same level for me. I can tell many of my CDs just by the color of the edge facing the room without even having to read the letters. They're like old friends.

I'll be sorry to see the medium go but it will, just like the vinyl and cassette tapes did.

You probably aren't doing anything wrong. When Q-Tip's last album came out, I bought it via Rhapsody. For some reason one of the tracks wouldn't download completely. I had to end up calling their customer service and re-downloading it about 6 times before the track got fixed on their end. So, there is a possibility that the file you downloaded was bad.

Vinyl only here @ this point. Although, being "fair" to the artist & making sure they get paid off my "financial vote" is NEVER outta my mind when I do anything digital.

With over 12,000 vinyl & prolly 2,000 CD's (countless reels of tape).....vinyl is the media that sonically sounds the best after all these years.

Nothing like the smell of vinyl, the cover art & that warm audio. Imma enjoy it while it lasts.

After burning the CD, be sure and finalize it so it will be compatible with other CD players. Also, many older CD players won't play homemade CDs.
