Zach Starkey. Ringo's kid.

not impressed

He is actually one heck of a drummer. I have seen him with The Who on several occasions.

My two cents.. twocents

It wasn't god awful; it was better than the halftime shows of the Stones and Tom Petty (well, at least it was flashier), but it was about as good as Paul McCartney's halftime show, which was for me like this: rolleyes bored

I think the NFL got so spooked by Janet Jackson's titty and the right wing wackjobs now fronting the Tea Parties and supporting Sarah Palin that they are afraid to put anyone on a halftime that was born after 1960.

My guess would be...

Simon Townsend - Rhythm guitar
John Bundrick - Keys

...based on current performances.

Next year lets try not to let dead people perform at the super bowl halftime show.

can we at least get back to the cheesy fit as many stars as possible on stage halftime shows? at least they had energy and excitement. Plus they were fun to watch fall apart. Tonight was just stale.

Prince's halftime show Pwns.

I LOVED the one with Aerosmith, Nsync, etc. I still have that on DVD somewhere.

I actually believe that George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic complete with Bootsy Collins would actually be an entertaining half time show.

What about Stevie Wonder, or the Isley Brothers (shouldn't Ron be out of jail soon?)?

confused You did? confused I actually enjoyed the one with U2, though some people thought that they were boring too. I thought that they were at least something different, but then again, I love U2 anyway.

U2 was good. I think that was 2002, and it was very 9/11-ish. Prince, MJ, Janet/JT were all good too, but I liked the variety in the Aerosmith one.

That would be cool as hell!

Was it me, or did it seem like The Who's performance could have been pre-recorded? It seemed so boring since there was no audience for them to interact with.

DD would be great as well. I'd like to see Cyndi Lauper, Jody Watley, and Duran Duran do a combo show.

He has more than enough smoking material and if the Viking's ever make it there then he could do 'Purple & Gold' LIVE!!!

I say get him to do it from now on. He has to play 3 hits, 1 cover, 1 obscure LP cut and one unreleased track. Sign him to do that for the next 15 years and it'll be a party every time!

i did hope pete would wreck his guitar, i think he wanted to..
and where was the crowd? nearest punter was 100ft away, what was all that about? anyone slagging off the drummer should give him credit for the decent shirt and sexy cymbals target

Exactly. I said I would've even taken someone like Lil Wayne for the Superbowl. I can't stand him, but he would've been a better fit than The Who.....in Miami too. Party city.

How about the Kia commercial w/ this song in it?

I had never heard of them until I saw them on Letterman not too long ago. They're a pretty tight band. Hope to hear more from them.

That's so true. He would be a good choice if he rocked out. As long as he doesn't do a blues show, it would be great.

Oh my gosh, that was the most craptastic performance I've ever seen. Where to begin?

Well kids, if you think a lifetime of smoking is going to improve your voice, I give you Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend (or is it Townshend? Who cares?) as proof that it RUINS it. You young 'uns might not believe this, but Roger Daltrey probably had the best voice in rock music - ever. I've never been a Who fan, but that cat had THE voice.

And now - ugh. Tobacco done cooked their vocal chords. That was so bad, so very, very bad. They sounded like wounded cats. My ears hurt.

Almost as bad as the singing was Townsend's playing. He screwed up EVERY song, but his work on "Won't Get Fooled Again" was just horrendous. I have no idea what happened to him but right now, there are 1,498 garage bands in Houston that could have played that set better than Townsend and the Who did.

Ringo's kid was OK on drums. But he could have been the second coming of John Blackwell and with the crap played/sung in front of him, it wouldn't have mattered.

The stage sucked. I mean, it SUCKED. There were no good views of it, and it seemed hard for the cameramen to get in any position for a good shot. They ought to put a hold on the check of whoever designed it.

All in all, there was one clear winner in this debacle - modern pop and country artists.

'Cause if the Who represent what to expect from aging rock acts, then say hello to Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Beyonce and maybe even Justin Bieber next year.
