Tell me what this means... This has come up in discussion recently, so I thought I'd come here 2 ask.
This grabbing himself that Michael Jackson was known to do, as well as other men...I always thought was a boy thing. Beyonce has recently grabbed herself during her performances. Through the mouths of older women, myself, and a young girl still in high school find it to be a tacky and unnecessary gesture. Girls are supposed to be ladylike, and that is not ladylike. The talk on the low rungs of society is that Beyonce has no reason to "Not," lose that part of her stage presence. For such a pretty girl and a talented singer, she won't miss out on a luxurious life if she stops it. Dear Beyonce...Everyone loves You, but a lot of women think that U are a poor role model 4 young ladies. We ask U 2 stop. Thank U...Tamera and numerous women. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Is there a secret to it? What does it mean?
Does it mean, "I've got power." Does it mean, "I've got to make sure the true essence of me is still here." What posesses a man 2 do this? What posesses a woman to follow suit? Us down here...We don't like it. U show stoppers way up there got to knock it off. We as people have a village 2 raise. And that goes 4 all U sporty producers that allow it to air as well. It's like a boy that spit in the street without any reason. The gesture offers nothing to society. Peace Be With U. I had to express this. Thank U 4 listening. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

They have two totally different meanings:
Mike did that as a rhythmic "F you" gesture to all people who thought he wasn't cool, tough, or BAD. Beyonce does it as an off-beat "F you" gesture to all men who treat good women poorly. That's my simple analysis. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee
"Water can nourish me, but water can also carry me. Water has magic laws." - JCVD

Mike didn't do it for any reason, he just follows the music (his words not mine).
Beyonce did it because her performance was MJ influenced, with the military men around her. She's been working in small references to him into her performances ever since he passed away. They were buddies, remember. I really don't know why one crotch grab makes her "un lady like" and why anyone would consider a pop star a role model in the first place. Isn't that just setting yourself up for disappointment? Anyway, this is a Prince forum, he sung about having sex with his sister, is anyone worried if he's "un man like" or a "bad role model"?

Even when MJ started to do it(or especially so, cuz I knew plenty would follow suit). small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

I understand loving Michael Jackson...however, wearing one diamond glove would be a smarter way of respecting Michael. At the same time prevent little 6 year old girls in pink dresses from playing, "I wanna grow up and do just like Beyonce does." When I was little I played, "Donny and Marie." I don't mean to have a biased opinion about Prince's ability to slip through some red tape.
Prince's "Act," can't be followed. I don't condone every thing Prince has ever been about through music, although the 80's were a different time. Prince also draws from his own well of thinking. A Little boy can't just pick up a guitar and a piano and run around like a stage king, singing sexy love songs. Prince has a magical way of being an exception to the rule. Why, I'm not sure...Just call it magic. All women that sing can be ladies or not be. If it's so simple to not do something so little to polish up your act on behalf of women and Mothers that agree with me...What would it hurt Beyonce? Some of the "Hip-Hop," Wild Style is unecessary. We all ought to try to look at life like a Black Tie affair. And that has nothing to do with clothes or fame. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Yeah, he said that, but I think in some instances he knew exactly what he was doing. Sometimes, due to his consistent choreography, the crotch-grab appears intentional, just like the "F off" move with his arm during the stage dance for TDCAU. It was a strong gesture to naysayers. And during some slow songs, swaying his hips while touching his pelvis was a sensual/sexual dance move that matched the mood of the melody/lyrics. And I've seen Beyonce do that crotch-reference move every time she performs "If I Were A Boy," so I don't think it has anything to do with MJ. I've seen girls/women do that when they're mocking arrogant men. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Maybe not, but any little boy can strip to his underwear and move his hips back and forth, run around, then fall and excitedly crawl and hump the floor just like Prince used to. I wasn't talking about Prince's talent playing instruments, I was strictly talking about how sexual he used to be on stage/in videos. Plenty of ppl here were kids/teens when he was doing all of that stuff, were you worried then about whether it was wrong or right? There's nothing wrong with a crotch grab, she could be doing far worse than that. For a Prince fan to criticise someone's on stage sexuality is just absurd. At the same time prevent little 6 year old girls in pink dresses from playing, "I wanna grow up and do just like Beyonce does." When I was little I played, "Donny and Marie." cool
6 yr olds shouldn't be watching Beyonce, Christina or any of today's stars. It's their PARENTS job to make sure they grow up right, not Beyonce.
