You should try to listen to some rap music before all that gangster stuff became a mainstream image. Try some old school. Try Grandmaster Flash. The Treacherous Three. Stuff like that. Or go for the great 80s classics. Try Run DMC, Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions. Try some Native Tongues, for example, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers. You'll understand what rap music was in the 80s. What it has developed into (in parts) is one thing. Debating the "purpose" of an art form in general is something different, imo.
People should make up their minds to what hiphop is about. 50 Cent is not representative for what one of the most important developments of music in the last 3 decades was once meant to be and still is in parts.

Sounds like rock-n-roll to me....or pop....

It's just the music of this era.

And you don't have to go old school...there are positive rappers still out there today like The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, and there are positive messages in many present day rap songs.

We're living in negative time but you don't have to focus on the negativity or try to pin the negativity on one group. Look at politicians....some could say they glorify adultery.

The purpose of it is to fullfill old white record executives' dreams of going back to their good ole days of how music and black people should be. It's purpose is to do away with all rhythm and undo all the progress that was made by the rock and roll era. The rock and roll era brought black rhythm to white people and now all rhythm is gone thanks to shit hop. It's just as slow and dull, if not duller, than the classical music era. Shit hop's purpose is also to put black people back as second class citizens by making them want to "stay in their place" in the ghetto and fight and kill each other. While they are talking that shit about "too black too strong", they are really a bunch of Uncle Tom oreo bitches who are giving old white racists what they want.

Of this era? This is the 2010s. It's not just the so called music of this era, but it's the so called music of the 2000s and the entire 1990s era. No other form of music dominates that long. Styles used to change every ten years. Face it, it's still here because it's the cheapest bullshit to make and labels aren't going to let styles change. That's why I'm all for illegal downloading and I hope to see all the labels go bankrupt.

Well, she should never attempt to do a fast song anyway because she doesn't have the rhythm for it. She's stiffer than a black dick in a white whorehouse. lol

Her slow songs are horrible too because you gotta have at least a little rhythm to fuck. It's a good thing she was born a woman instead of a man because she'd have to have a little rhythm to thrust. Since she's a woman, all she has to do is lay there. lol

Back in the days, when I was a teenager, rap almost always had a positive message or at least was some sort of social commentary:

or it could just make you feel good and MCs would rap about fun stuff:

or about friendship:

To diss a whole genre without knowing much about its true essence and origins is unfair, to say the least.

And you don´t even need a time machine, there are still rappers with a message out there:

Something uplifting:

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Yeah, that was the second concert I ever went to. Ticket stub only says Run DMC. The first concert being UTFO, Too Short, and I can't remember if it was the Real Roxanne or Roxanne Shante.

The Beastie Boys were the opener. LL Cool J and Whodini were also there.
