It's interesting Prince himself would say funk or jazz is dead and yet over 20 years later he's still doing funk, jazz and R&B. I don't know what he was trying to achieve back in the '80s with those comments besides trying to be an all-out rocker. Prince was never ONE thing anyways.

he was trying to say "out with the old, in with the new" with a little punk-ass thrown in to say "i'm the new"

It didn't work. lol Now he's old school. lol

The unofficial Funkadelic was on Soul Train in 1981, promoting their album Connections & Disconnections (Now known as Who's a Funkadelic). This was the version of Funkadelic, that George Clinton had nothing to do with.

When it's all said in done....

Why do I get the feeling George and his crew never gave a damn if they ever appeared of 'Soul Train' or not. The mothership was always a bit anti-establishment anyways. smile

yeahthat

It does feel like a "take it or leave it" from their end. It didn't hurt them that they weren't invited to Soul Train.

Parliament may have never been on there but Funkadelic was. I saw them a years ago when WGN was airing old episodes. I think it was from 1980 and I had never heard the two songs they performed.

Yeah, I saw that. It sucked, though.

Yes, they did air a Funkadelic episode either last year or year before. I vividly remember it.

Here is the episode:

AGAIN...those guys were not "Funkadelic", they were just former buddies of George Clinton that couldn't get a hit. They split up right after this performance too. George wasn't having it. lol Fuck outta here with that. evillol

Don Cornelius inviting "The Funkadelics" is like him inviting "The Supremes" without Mary Wilson or Jean Terrell.

Maybe so, but they are still considered "Funkadelic". It's a brand, not a group. Like the Temptations, The Supremes, etc.

That's the confusing truth about it. It IS a brand. But George and the boys were never considered to be qualified on "Soul Train". Anyway, it wasn't as if George and 'em were ready for mornings anyway. The funk freaks always come out at night. cool
