What made me cringe wasn't the self-promotions(if we're honest, ALL of those performers regardless of what they sing, are self-promoting themselves,,,even if its a charity and even if they don't have an agenda). Its those words.. Remember those walls I built Well, baby they're tumbling down And they didn't even put up a fight They didn't even make up a sound I really don't care if they're metaphors, giving the situation she's in, a lil' respect to the audience she's singing to would've made her go back and re-work them. Thank you! I guess basic decorum is a lil' hard to comprehend for some folks It's not hard. I just think people get a little bit to negative and sensitive. I also think that allot has to do with me being a disabled person and how I look at the world. I get stared at and the way I walk gets talked about at least once a day. If I were to let all of the get to me, I would blow my brains out, because this is something that I cannot control. Yes, what happened in Haiti was beyond their control, but now they have a chance to rebuild and get better. I take the lyrics to the song not as a negative but as fuel to press on and do what I go to do. Their walls did come tumbling down, now it is up to them to pick up the pieces and rebuild. So no, sorry, I don't see how it was "FAR" less apporpriate She doesn't have a dick, and I don't have to settle down or anything else you think I should. You can, however, jump your happy ass off my quote button if you don't like my font. "Emotion" is a break-up song, the video of which depicts Beyoncé throwing bleach on her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend's clothing. The lyrics make it fairly obvious that the relationship is ending due to infidelity. The only part that can really be applied to the situation is the chorus, "In the words of a broken heart, it's just emotion that's taken me over / Caught up in sorrow, lost in my soul" and even that's only three lines. At the very least, "Halo" always had a tinge of death and sadness in the lyrics. Halo is a bullshit, low-quality song. How about THAT for being reason it's inappropriate? It would be like Sheryl Crow and co singing 'Haiti, lean on me when you're not strong...' or Justin singing 'Haiti-lleluiah' Maybe Beyonce thought it was the challenge of the evening to try an mention 'Haiti' in the performance. !!

....that is mad deep! nothing like a song querying your man if he's cheating on you to honor the death of thousands!! when I pass on please play one of those highly appropriate Beyonce songs like....Bootylicious, or better yet, Survivor! [Edited 2/3/10 14:06pm]

I didn't catch the whole show, but the parts I saw were mostly people singing covers of songs that they felt to be appropriate.
Beyonce, not surprisingly chose a song that is current and promotes her own career. Yeah Sting has done his own stuff, but when you can sing Fragile for 9/11 or If You Love Someone Set them Free for Amnesty International, it's appropriate. Or if you can write something new, like John Lennon wrote songs asking for the release of John Sinclair or Angela Davis, then maybe you can promote your new music AND get the message across. It's not surprising that she would do something like that. She is the slickest politician in music. [Edited 2/3/10 14:25pm] My Legacy

She refuses to expand her repertoire It would also be nice if someone around her would say "hey, that song, that wig, that dance....not appropriate for this situation" Dang, even jay wrote a brand new rap just for Haiti because he knew he could not come out there singing Run This Town. Well, the way I see it, they had two choices. They could have asked her to sing "Survivor" or "Halo". Survivor, would have been REALLY inapropriate...So, she stuck with "Halo". As for Jay-Z telling her that singing "Halo", might not be a great move, I don't think that it was his place to say anything...husband or not. This was her choice to say, yes or no, she is a big girl... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"
