It's doubtful that this person thought "I'm going to sound like Prince" when they went into the studio. Go listen to the 60's and 70's R&B, and see who was inspired by who. | |

In the end of the day nobody can say who inspired who, hell that is just too difficult.

You could place this song on any number of guitarists' fan sites and they would say the same thing. How you hear something like this depends on who you listen to. Many guitar players use a combination of wah, delay and reverb to solo.
The cool thing to do would be to find out who played the solo, go to his/her myspace or facebook page and say "Hey, I just heard your solo on 'Are you ready' and thought it was cool" That would be the cool thing to do - giving the actual guitarist props for their own work instead of debating and dwelling on their influences. | |
