Janet went off!!!!

I cannot wait for this. The first one was really good. That dinner table scene was off the hook. Just when you think it's over, Jill Scott gets up and whacks that MFer over the head w/ a wine bottle (which is exactly what you root for her to do, because that bottle is in every shot she's in; it's BEGGING to be broken over his head).

One of the best lines of the first movie: WHY ARE YOU SO DAMN EVIL!?!

New Pitbull ft. Janet demo!!
The vocals aren't Janet by the way.

I'm not going to even lie. I was prepared to drag (2 sips of the haterade) but this is FIERCE! eek I can't wait to hear the finish product.

and midiscover, It won't be on Janet's upcoming album.
She's a feature on Pitbull's upcoming album but I think he will return the favor with a different track.

falloff @ the New York Post already reviewing this. They gave it a thumbs up!

holy god in heaven why was this NOT like the LEAD single from Number Ones or Discipline? Isn't this track she did with PB from like 2 years ago and now just getting the light of day?

...and back to the subject...PLENTY of big acts have toured and still do tour off their FIRST hit album. plus, she had two other records to draw highlights from. I think a Janet ticket would have been a pretty hot commodity in about 1987. i see no reason why she didn't tour except that recurring theme that comes up in her career - mismanagement.

No, it's recent. Rodney mentioned in one of his interviews that Janet was doing a collab with Pitbull. This track is for Pitbull's upcoming release, not Janet's.

U're right, those cd covers were horrid. I entered the cd cover contest and neither of my creations were picked. I thought mine looked 1000% better than what they chose. Not to mention they didn't pick the best pics either.

I'm not sure how she thought those were great choices. There HAD to be better choices out there. I saw some online, and they were horrid, but come on.

The only decent idea is the one from Velvet Rope, top left. The bottom left is a good start, but get rid of the band and text, and fill in her silhouette with past images (like MJ's This Is It). The other two are ridiculous.

This and the whole 20 Y.O. project was just one big bad joke that many didn't get confused

I love the 20 Y.O album. I think it's a very solid album (better than Damita Jo and Discipline in my opinion). I'm mad they didn't pic MY album cover that I did. I think mine was 10 times better than those 4

The album is bipolar. There are a couple of tracks that are classics (Enjoy, Take Care and Love 2 Love are so brilliant!) and many that are huge disappointments. I think the fact that the album starts off horribly with So Excited turns me off the most confused and I die every time I hear Janet sing or should I say rap "Can you B.A.C.K.I.T boyyy!"

I like This Body (for MC Janet bit, her flow is sick!), Enjoy, Take Care, Love 2 Love, With U and Daybreak are so cute!

But I think Discipline and Damita Jo are way stronger. 20 Y.O. didn't make sense. It was supposed to celebrate her 20 years in the industry but it was a shitty mess! JD shouldn't have been on it at all. Hell! he lost his job because of that album. Discipline would've been good without a few tracks, mostly the sleep inducing ballads.

What was your album cover?

I think Janet just slacked with the videos and singles for 20YO .. I know every song on 20YO .. When it comes to DJ, I only play the singles (her outtakes from the session are better than all the songs on the actual album) and I only know like 4 or 5 songs on Disipline .. To me, 20YO > DJ > Discipline

Yea, you can blame Virgin for that. They've been shelling out poor single choices since The Velvet Rope. I think it had to do with TVR not being commercial so they've been confused with Janet since. With a few readjustments I think Discipline could've been the "comeback" album her fans were wishing for. It's kind of like 20 Y.O. by being bipolar. DJ is a good solid album. I can play it from start to finish without skipping any tracks (interludes) included.

1) It was her last album for Virgin. The lack of support doesn't surprise me. She did two videos though, and I believe had a "making of" for at least "Call on Me", and perhaps "So Excited".

2) She never went away, so there was no need for a comeback. She was, and is still, steadily releasing albums every 2 years or so.

1. There was no lack of as far as promotion goes. Virgin gave Janet a lot of promotion. The packaging of the album alone was a lot of money. Music videos was a lot of money. I recall "Call on Me" was higher than 2 million. She went overseas performed and did many interviews. Was on every magazine imaginable. The only thing she lacking was radio and I guess MTV.

2. I was being sarcastic. Note the " ". I guess you could say comeback to the top of the charts....

I'm so surprised that Janet's record label allowed her to release sexually explicit music since SB.

That's bullshit. The Super Bowl is OVER. She didn't say "FUCK" on TV or something. she accidentally flopped out a fun bag. Big deal. It has NOTHING, never did and never will have, to do with her music. She has enough clout to release what she wants.

I don’t understand your point.

Janet was heavily criticised for the sexual content of DJ after SB - which affected her sales in my opinion. So I would have thought Janet and her record label would want to disassociate themselves from anything controversial after this. That’s all.

My point is that a record company isn't going to try and reign her in just because of a boob incident. Janet didn't feel she did anything wrong, and even regretted her "apology" on TV a day later. It was an accident. Janet had always had sexual content on her albums. "IF" is all about blowjobs and fucking, yet it was on fucking MTV, BET and everywhere else. She wasn't going to start editing herself because the Right got all up in arms about seeing a brown boobie for a split second.

The boob flopping out was about as important as Prince's silhouette at the Super Bowl. Remember the hubbub over that?

Janet really did't need to tour, her videos did if for her back then. She went from a child to an adult star, and we were shocked at her transitioning. Janet had already built a rapport with her fan base before she even hit the music industry.
The message you are about to hear are not meant for transmission. Should ONLY be accessed in the privacy of your mind. Words are so intense so if you dare to listen.Take off your clothes and meet me between the lines. wildsign

That's my point. To Janet, her boob incident wasn't any "deal" at all, despite the press having a field day with it. That's why she never edited her sexuality in her albums after that.

LOL. Zilch about Janet's career was mismanaged during that period. Madonna didn't tour off her first hit album, either. It wasn't that common at the time.

Better than DJ? What songs do you think are standouts on 20YO vs. DJ?

I think 20YO is her worst project. Only because it was inconsistent and it didn't showcase Janet's persona well. I liked some of the songs on there (especially "Enjoy"), but a lot of the songs seemed so juvenile to me compared to Damita Jo.

I will be the first to admit that I didn't like Damita Jo at first, but over the years, I kept going back to that project. As I listen to it, it was really before it's time. If Damita Jo came out in 06 or 09, she would have had a bigger hit than she did originally. I could definitely hear songs like "My Baby" and "Island Life" getting airplay today compared to when it first came out.

I have to agree with the 20YO surmising. It goes in sections actually. The first 5 songs, up to the first segue is VERY R&B and urban, painfully so to some point. The second set is slower/happy songs, and the last set is just throw away stuff. VERY inconsistent. It's not exactly a concept album that can get away with that sort of segmentation. I'm not a huge fan of D.J., but I like it way more than 20YO.

The last set is all that matters off 40 Y.O. The concept was supposed to be a continuation of Control and she followed through. The production is a let down it drowns all of Janet's vocals to the point she's inaudible *waves* at JD.

There was nothing of Control in that album except a few sound samples on 1 or 2 songs. It was the furthest thing from Control.

It wasn't a "concept" album, it was supposed to be an homage, or a nod to the past, yet it failed horribly. Jam & Lewis should have done anything they could have to accomplish that, IF that were truly one of the goals of the album.

I think you missed the whole point. It was her Control persona on the album and you're right the album did lack a concept. I guess it was more of a vibe and that was the only accomplishment. But moving on from yesteryear. I'm excited for the new album
