In 1996,Maurice stopped touring with the band because he has Parkinson's Disease.A few months ago,he did appear with the band during a few concerts in Japan. As for who is the better lead singer...I like them both.

Neither is better than the other, because it's a bananas/watermelons comparison. Phil Bailey sings almost exclusively in falsetto, Maurice doesn't at all as far as I can remember. Their voices contrast, and are used differently for EW&F when it comes to lead vocals. The harmonies of the group meshed well because of that contrast. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Or whatever. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Both are such a big part of EWF that their really is no choice. It's like saying which "Brothers Johnson" you think is best. Now if you asked me which I would rather hear solo if you made me choose, I would have to say Maurice. I dug his solo project a little more then the albums Phillip has released. But then again that's because he created the EWF sound. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

Louis Johnson on that one because His Thumping Bass Playing kinda is what made them Guys get half the Love they still do IMHO.but I agree on a whole it's harder with EWF on the Lead.but Phillip has Sung lead on tours&on Albums in His Regular voice&He can Sing but His Falsetto sets Him apart though when Compared too his Regular on a whole IMHO.mistermaxxx

I met Maurice White in the airport at LAX. He said he is doing fine and will do some show now and then with EWF.
Both of them make up the group...
