You Saved My Da Ms. Lynn career should have been so, so, so much bigger and successful. I agree, but to me, I think it was the material. If you listen to all of her albums, a lot of her material was pretty weak. She had some MONSTER songs, but the fill in songs were (overall) weak to me. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

My comment was on in general. Yep, the material was weak but "the suits" or someone should have and could've helped Lynn maximize that beautiful voice and persona.

I totally agree. Maybe Larkin Arnold (or whoever was running CBS at the time) was not that into her. She had a HUGE out the box hit and there is no reason why they couldn't have built on that. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

There are plenty of weak songs and albums that have been huge successes. IMO, "In The Night" and "Instant Love" were excellent efforts. Cheryl had lousy management and she just wasn't promoted outside of R&B circles. Also, if we are going to be honest, Cheryl's weight had a lot to do with her lack of promotion & not being a major success. Those of us of a certain age remember hearing plenty of stories from artists in the 80's and 90's who were saying weight discrimination in the music business was relentless and the code words that were being used by the labels were "She's/He's not video-friendly". There may be some merit in what you say but Cherly career started in the 70's. Tho' I've always found it curious that many assume Black artist have to "crossover" to become a success, when we are the source of the music.. this strikes me as ironic. Besides, plenty R&B groups were succesfull and made bank as well. I'm not sure if I buy the weight discrimination whole heartly. Even if she'd stayed within in R&B to put it blunlty, black folks have never had hang ups about weight -that's some white men and women b.s.- them sista's in those choirs by and large ain't never been all that skinny. I think the stigma of disco may have hurt her career, most of those men and women didn't survive the era which is funny since most of them could "blow". I think DaPrettyman maybe right, management didn't see Lynn's worth which wouldn't surprise me. I agree with you, Lynn's own management team didn't serve her well nor did she appear to know how to change direction in order to get the right people to help her. As Timmy says, "Could've, Would've, Should've but didn't". ===== [Edited 1/22/10 3:25am]

She needs a really good 'Best Of' CD,because this one is really flawed
It includes the single version of her biggest hit "Got To Be Real" It also includes the single version of "Encore" The extended 12" version is essential! It's missing the singles "In The Night","Instant Love" and "New Dress" How are you gonna do a 'best of' CD and leave out three of her singles?!

Those Legacy reissues that Sony did in the 90s are all like that. I think the best one that I have is the Heatwave one. The rest are pretty weak and missing a lot of material. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
