This has been addresses numerous time. Although we will never know for sure, my thoughts are that she got caught up in the fame and couldn't handle it. I also believe she allowed her "man" to fuck her around too much (with his other ladies and kids) and she also got mixed up with some religious guru who did nothing to help her get back on track IMHO.

I would love to see her make great music again, but I have my doubts unfortunately.

Use the search box. It's all over the Org, even in recent days/weeks.

Does the search box really work? Every single search I have ever done has come up with 0 results, even when I know there should be results.

Prince did break out.
George did not, unfortunately.

Here's what Wikipedia says about her and her record label. Maybe it will shed some light on things a bit:

In June 2007, Sony records said though Hill has "consistently recorded over the past decade" and has what amounts to "a library of unreleased material in the vault", she had recently re-entered the studio "with the goal of making a new LP." Later that same year, Think Differently music quietly released a 22 track compilation titled Ms. Hill which featured cuts from The Miseducation, various soundtracks contributions and other "unreleased" songs. It features guest appearances from D'Angelo, Rah Digga and John Forté. It is unclear if the album is sanctioned by the artist — many of the songs are obviously in unfinished format and clock in at under one minute — but it is currently listed on AllMusic and Amazon.

Reports in mid-2008 claimed that Columbia Records currently believe Lauryn Hill to be "on hiatus." Rohan Marley disputed these claims, telling an interviewer that Hill has enough material for several albums: "She writes music in the bathroom, on toilet paper, on the wall. She writes it in the mirror if the mirror smokes up. She writes constantly. This woman does not sleep". One of the few public appearances Hill made in 2008 was at a Martha Stewart book-signing in New Jersey, perplexing some in the press.

Well this is more like it....looks like the record company don't like what she's saying in her music and she still under contract ....?

Well she has not run out of money and they are playing a waiting game ...i wonder how long her contract was signed for ...anyone knows ?

Prince must be hated in the industry as he started all of this .....rebel music ... lol

I wonder if she is the one withholding the music though?

I don't know if Prince started this really. If she owes her record company another record or two, she'd be well off to serve it up and get out of her contract. Remember, even Prince, who had a lot more clout than Lauryn Hill, was still obligated to give albums to WB, which included Chaos, The Vault, and two compilations, until he was totally done with them. It could be said that Lauryn will have even more strict reigns by the record company before she's free of anything. So I'm not sure it's censorship, so much as just fulfilling her end of a contract and agreement. She might run out of cash if she keeps being a brat about releasing anything, KNOWING her fans would want to hear something from her. If she REALLY wants nothing to do with the industry (as she's stated in the past at random, and almost incoherent times), then give the record company just enough to call an album, and letitgo.

Alot of people in this business are bipolar but remain functional, no its deeper than that, I think she wanted to preserve what lil' left from her sanity by quitting this business.

Still get paid by performing, but from the looks of how this industry operates nowadays,,,I'd say she's right by quitting the scene.

I miss her like shit, but I understand her for keeping her distance.

If Sony BMG isn't careful, Lauryn can still sued for her freedom. Remember The Teena Marie Rule?
