Steve Arrington: One of the best Rnb/Funk Voices ever

I have been a Slave fan since I was a kid, when my parents would play their music. I forgot about it till college, when I rediscovered them. I was shocked to find out that Steve wasn't lead on all their songs and found I only liked the Slave songs he sang on.

I don't know what it is that makes his voice so great-I don't know if it is the tone, the phrasing or what it is. It just bends so well and is perfect with whatever he is singing. The man was just blessed.

Most definitley agree with you on that, I have most of the Slave catalogue & the albums that feature Steve are my most played.

And his "hall of fame" albums are dancing jig

couldnt find my all time favourite on youtube "Sugar Momma Baby" music

Steve does indeed have a very pleasant voice. Stone Jam and Show Time are probably my two favorite Slave albums (... though I do like their earlier work without Steve on lead vocals as well smile ).

Yeah, the albums with Mark "Drac" Hicks on lead & guitar "Slave"-The Concept" are like a completely different band, with more of a funk/rock sound, while "Just a Touch Of Love" thru "Showtime" with Steve Arrington were straight ahead R&B.

Did he do "I Feel So Real" as a solo artist. That was quite a nightclub favourite in the late 1980s here in the UK.

Give me an example when Steve was off key. How was his voice whiny? Raphael Saadiq sounds a bit like him

I LOVE this song!!! Slave was putting it down back in the day when bands were holding it down. I miss bands in R&B/Soul/Funk music. Sadly, I don't see a resurgence of bands ever taking place. sad
