Shakespear's Sister: new release Okay - I loves me some old Shakespear's Sister! Their first album was kick ass and the follow-up was the most successful, with "Stay." The gals parted shortly after and later we learned that Siobhan Fahey was crazy-depressed, was bitter about leaving Bananarama to have to "work with someone else" again, and then her marriage to Eurythmic Dave Stewart ended. Meanwhile, Marcella Detroit put out "Jewel," a solo disc that had some good tunes for the times but was largely ignored in America. Fast forward, like, 18 years and - finally - Siobahn just released Shakespear's Sister's "Songs From the Red Room."
I have to say, the wait has been painful and Siobhan Fahey calling herself Shakespear's Sister without Marcella Detroit on board is like Dave Stewart calling himself Eurythmics without Annie Lennox! That said..... The new album (all Siobhan, no Marcella) is actually pretty good! Marcella, by the way, is in England right now as a contestant on a new show they are doing (seriously) called "From Popstar to Opera Star." She's up against a bunch of talentless people without her vocal chops, so *maybe* she stands a chance at winning. Take that, Siobhan! Anyone else appreciate Shakespear's Sister?

i did listen to some Bananarama the other day though. The new Michael Cera movie Youth In Revolt starts with Bananarama's joint with Fun Boy Three [Edited 1/15/10 14:32pm]
